Hi there:
Anyone have any experience with getting a medical flight certificate while taking an SSRI? I'm currently working on my private pilot's certificate and have read some things indicating that the FAA will not issue a medical cert if you're taking an SSRI! Evidently they'd rather have us not treated!
Thanks,
Luke

>Yes, Luke, I believe you have to go to an accredited "flight medical examination" doctor (who specializes in this sort of thing.)
It's really a weird thiing...eh??...but I guess they need to have assurance against side effects interfering with co-ordination. I imagine there may be certain drugs that they flat out rule you can't take while piloting. Sorry can't help you more...but good luck, and remember your well-being (mental in particular) is critical.Best wishes..
Jay
