Rhodiola Rosea - experiences, brands, prices?(NADH

Posted by Anonne on August 7, 2003, at 2:53:39

Very very interested in people's experiences with rhodiola rosea - standardized to what percent of what ingredient, best places to buy, prices, etc..

Larry Hoover had some positive anecdotes early in 2002 through various online groups - but I only found his recounting his first 6 days of his trial w/ that supplement/adaptogen.

Please, someone sell me on buying some!

And another thread, the NADH... (does it have to be Enada brand for best effectiveness?)

And modafinil (Provigil). I have some samples. I'm planning to try a quarter of a 200 mg tablet, after I get cleared by a cardio-pulm. doc.

I do love the placebo effect of anticipating miracles. Or at least very small ones. Or at least a somewhat pleasant one?

Ok, I've had too much coffee and nicotine. G'nite.

It turned out to be intolerable for me. I developed major insomnia, which caused a real problem for me. I have some sealed bottles I'll never use. I wish there was an easy way to "donate" them.

I was using the Solgar SFP (Standardized Full Potency) product, at 1% salidrozid, 40% polyphenols, all added to 100 mg of powdered Rhodiola root. That was the same product that a corresponding friend of mine had used to achieve near miraculous results, including resolution of his own insomnia. My friend also found that most of his symptoms from PTSD vanished.

The herb does have a potent effect, but whether it will make you feel better can only be determined by "doing the experiment" on yourself.

I got mine at Hilife Vitamins and Herbs, who are on the net.

Enada is the patent-holder and only source for stabilized NADH. Many companies market it, but it's all the same stuff (if it says Enada somewhere). I am of the opinion, that yes it has to be Enada NADH, but like I said, there are many such products on the market, and at different prices, so it pays to shop around.

I don't have any experience with modafinil. Just one point of caution.....separate your trials over time. If you let them overlap in any way, you'll confound the effect of one substance with another, and you won't have any clear idea just what substance is doing what in your body.

The most readily available high-quality product is RhodaX, by Pinnacle Labs, which is sold in most GNC stores for $20 for a month's supply. Another excellent brand is Arctic Root made by the Swedish Herbal Institute.

In case you haven't read it, here's a link to the Newsweek article that sparked the current popular interest is Rhodiola a.k.a. Arctic Root.

I haven't noticed any effect whatsoever from ArcticRoot (Rhodiola). Enada NADH, however, does provide a mild energizing effect.

Larry, sounds like these supplements can have paradoxical effects, just like 'meds'.

Thanks for writing back; and yes, I am aware that the more cooks in the kitchen (er, supplements, meds, adjuncts, modalities, whatever) can spoil the soup, or at least make it one big muddle. Uh, make it difficult to tease out what may be causing such n' such effect.

I'm a little less "thrilled" about the zillions of new 'trials' I could guinea pig with. I think exercise on a regular basis and some sleep might help.

Thanks, all.
