Yes, I tried it.

I took it for 2 month and also took SAMe for 2 weeks with it, but SAMe is not the right thing for me. (I got a little "weired" on that combo:)
I tried different doses. The recomm. dose of 3 tabs/day made me anxoius, worked on a little bit on depression, but was putting me in a constant sleep like state. But had some unique cognitive enhancing properties. 2 tabs/day made nothing good. 6 tabs/day (doubled recommended dose (was the idea of my doc, because no one knows how this drug works, nor what the right dosage is) was like poison for my body.
To cite my doc:"Some love it!"
I dont know what to think of that drug. As a monotheraphy it did not work for me at all.
But its worth a try!

Did your moods become very dark, or did it seem like a mood brightener (ie SSRIs)

My mood became quite "normal". not dark or bright. It was definatley not like a SSRI. No artificial mood brightening. After my first few doses my mood became "stone cold sober", and stayed like this. It really had some mood stabilizer like capabilities. The best word to describe the feeling is: sober.

I have. After having TMS in January (this was not part of a study, but given by a doctor very experienced in ECT who had several years of experience in using TMS), I got into a complete remission from a severe depression. I decided to use tianeptine because of the studies I read about it protecting the hippocampuses of stressed baby tree shrews. I thought it might help my own stressed hippocampus get more normal (the stresses were from childhood neglect and abuse). Everything went well for four months, but then the depression began to return- in a less severe form, but still there. I would have liked to have maintenance TMS, but the doctor who gives it lives a 1000 miles away from me, and it was difficult to get the time off from work to go and have it every two months. So, I chose Lexapro. It didn';t make sense to be taking one medication which prevented serotonin re-uptake, and another (tianeptine) which enhanced it! The Lexapro has worked very well- it's in conjunction with psychoanalytic psychotherapy focussing on the early abuse and ensuing PTSD. However, my long-term goal is to improve enough with my therapy to be able to go back to just the tianeptine because of its brain-protective effects.
