please help. some questions on effexor.

Posted by timothy on July 23, 2003, at 10:27:07

i'd been taking lexapro for about 10 weeks (give or take a week) and my doctor wasn't satisfied with the results, so he switched my medication over to Effexor. today is my third day taking it.

I've looked at the medical descriptions of the drug and it doesn't mention weight gain, but i've read some real horror stories on this site about people gaining large amounts of weight quickly and that the weight doesn't come off even when you stop taking the medication. does anyone know the deal on this? how common is this side effect?

i'm especially concerned because my mother took headache medication a while back and it made her gain a lot of weight and she eats very little.

i'm a little concerned with this.

also, how long does it generally take the effexor to work & will it work faster because i've been taking lexapro for a couple months, or does the conversion not speed up the process?

part of me is thinking that i should have stayed on the lexapro, which also seems to have possibly gain some weight.

another part of me is thinking of going off the meds altogether.

i don't know.

all of this is so frustrating & i feel like pulling my hair out.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

EffexorXR takes about 6 to 8 weeks to reach full effect.

ALWAYS WAIT 6 DAYS BEFORE CHANGING YOUR DOSES< REAL IMPORTANT!

Have a good day!
