From lexapro to Luvox, HELP!!

Posted by ian24 on July 19, 2003, at 14:31:16

I went from 10 mg lexapro to 200 mg luvox a day in one day. I'm also on 1mg of klonopin. I feel VERY wierd. Don't like it but it does seem to help with obsessiveness which is why I switched. Will the nervyness and tirendess go away? Is this because I switched in one day from lex to luvox or is this how luvox will always make me feel. Please respond!

I'm also on Klonopin (1 mg twice a day) and tried Luvox for OCD tendencies - all it did was make me tired! I forget the dosage I was on.

I find it interesting that you report both nervousness and tirendess, although I have been both tired and nervous at the same time!

I do not know if it will go away because the tiredness I felt from Luvox (drowsiness, sleepy) didn't go away. Plus it did not help my OCD
tendencies so I got off it.

However, do NOT go by my experiences! I would suggest you give the Luvox several weeks like other SSRI's and see if what you report goes away or not. If not, and you want a good OCD med, try the TCA called Anafranil - it is the *gold standard* for OCD, even though it's an oldie! It does cause drowsiness at first but it DOES wear off!

You probably should have tapered off the Lexapro while simultaneously titrating up on the Luvox (that's what pdocs usually have patients do), even if you were on a low dose of Lexapro (you didn't specify the dose). You may have messed a little with the neurons in the brain by making the switch *abruptly* but they will settle down again, that's for sure!

Good luck 2 U!

Don't worry. You are probably feeling some weird stuff because of the abrupt change in medication. In a few days, your system should settle down a bit and the side effects lessen. In a few weeks, perhaps all of these effects will disappear altogether. It may be a difficult few weeks, but I would encourage you to be patient. In this way, you will have given the new drug every chance of working.

Good luck.

Luvox used in USA?

I thought I read that Luvox was not used anymore, at least in the US. Is that true? I might be confusing Luvox with something else.
