I am currently on 50mg of Zoloft- nothing else. I see a new pDoc in a week and am then going to see what he says about switching to Effexor XR and then sometime soon getting on Topamax for weight loss. I don't know if I should start weening myself off of Zoloft now or just wait to see what he says. Zoloft is a great drug for me- I just can't lose any damn weight! I have tapered off of Zoloft before (prob not correctly) and remember getting "brain zaps". I want to make sure I don't confuse any Effexor side effects with getting off the Zoloft. I'm really confused and really scared about trying something new! I only have a month before I go back to college so I would like to have everything figured out by then. I don't really want to stay on the Zoloft while taking the Effexor... If anyone could tell me the most correct way of getting off Zoloft- I would really appreciate that! Thanks.

Well effexor will do the same to you, if this med is working for u then stick with it, effexor may not work for you, and if u went back to zoloft it may not work for u again.. i would stick with it, just stop eating as much... lol... zoloft is known to help u loose weight ..

I would love to stay on the Zoloft- but have been on it for 2
months now and have absolutely no ambition to do anything! I
never want to leave my house and I'm always tired. I can't
lose any weight and this is not helping to relieve my
depression- I don't eat that much either. I think I am just
going to stay on the Zoloft until I meet with my Dr. instead
of weening off cause I didn't take it today and am already
feeling depressed tonight. I've heard that Effexor is less
likely to cause weight gain than SSRI's and I think I need
the norephrinephine for energy/anxiety.

if its energy u r looking for then sometimes effexor would be good also reboxetine is very energetic made me like a manic i was so overwhelmed with energy more so than when i was on effexor... reboxatine i think isnt available in the us yet? but you can buy it from an online pharmasist ask your doc about it.
