Lexapro and nausea???

Posted by Felicity on July 14, 2003, at 9:10:50

My doc just upped my dose of Lex to 20 mgs per day. Now, I am experiencing extreme nausea after I eat. Anyone else had this problem or can give me advice??? Thanks!

I have about 20 seconds to a minute of strong nausea everyday. I never had that before I started taking depression meds. I just tell myself that it is a small price to pay. Yet when nausea is on you it feels like it will be there forever. Mine is mercifully short lived though.

When do you take it in relation to eating? Sometimes one can alter the way/time you take a med and make a huge difference.

If taking your meds with food doesn't help, I've personally found that a well-prepared herbal infusion works (similar to a tea, but made with water that has been brought to a boil and then allowed to cool for a few minutes). Nothing, and I mean *nothing*, worked for my nausea until I began experimenting and stumbled upon an infusion of galangal (ginger could be substituted), peppermint, chamomile, and basil. I put a little honey and half-and-half in this, and drink a cup or two with some saltines. Works better than anything else I've ever tried.
