Wellbutrin SR when to take second dose

Posted by Bellaciao on July 11, 2003, at 13:41:31

In order to give me more energy my dr prescribed provigil which makesme nervous so she said if that did not work increase my Wellbutrin SR. I currently take 150mg. My dr is out of town. What would be the best time of day to take second dose??? I do not want to be awake at night. Thanks.

What I was told is to take the first dose after I wake up in the morning, and then the second dose 8 hours after the first one.

Thats what I would say, 8 hours later, about half way through the day. I take 3-100mg Wellbutrins a day, one with each meal. Too close together is not good, I don't have any problem falling asleap even 1-4 hours after taking welbutrin, if I'm tiered. Some times it even puts me to sleep?

You have to take doses of Wellbutrin SR at least 8-hours apart or you risk having a seizure.

The "seizure risk" of Wellbutrin is overstated. Not really a problem unless you are taking other meds that might lower the seizure threshold, or quit drinking or taking a med like benzos abruptly. In THAT sort of situation, YES, WB *COULD* increase the risk of a seizure. Although the 8 hour rule has been the so-called "gold standard" recommendation, it is not necessarily applicable to everyone. I take my first 150mg SR when I wake up, or around 6:30 A.M., and my second 150mg SR around 11:30 A.M. I have been doing that for about 4 years with no worries. If I take my second dose later in the day, it does sometimes interfer with my sleep. Even on the weekend, if I wake up around 6:30, but am not yet getting out of bed, I will take my first 150mg. I have been able to get back to sleep fairly well when I do that, getting up about 1-2 hours later. So, that's what I think about the subject.
