Yesterday I have discovered surfing the web that my real problem is ADD. Now the problem will be to find a doc who agrees with me. Here in Italy adult ADD is not very well-known and most stims are out of law. I'm on Celexa now but only side-effects. I have taken Anafranil for many years, very useful but I gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of fun (I didn't like to see people when I was on it). My doc doens't want me to try Wellbutrin.
The first time I went to a doc (ten years ago) I complained that I could'n concentrate on study because I had a lot of day-dreaming. It wasn't difficult to say ... ADD ! Why the hell do I have to discover by myself the right dyagnosis after having spent lot of money, time and energy ?
any comment of any sort ?

if ur doctor didnt officialy diagnose you with ADD it will be a complete bitch to get the proper treatment. the truth is that stimulants are the best way to treat ADD. funny thing is most docters will consider it "drug seeking behavoir" now that there are non-abusable yet way less effective meds to treat ADD. you need to find a proper doctor that doesnt belive in not using stimulants first then your in good shape

Try fish oil for your add...it may work well enough that you MAY not need the meds.

Thanks for the info. I'll try it. Do you know which is the dose required ? Do I have it do order online or I can find it elsewhere ? How long time does it take to show his effects ?
Thanks in advance and sorry for all these questions (and for my bad english too). Best wishes

Hi Francesco,I know exactly what you mean. I live in a country next to yours. Adult ADD is totally ignored in europe. They have an attitude towards it like:"Thats your proplem! You have to live with it. etc." But I now have fond a doctor, a professor, who is willing to try Ritalin. No one at the health system (especially the incurance company, who pay for the drug) will doubt the judgement of a professor. Ritalin is hard to get, but is possible by law, and very uncommon for an adult in my place (ist like obtaining opiates, methadone, ...).
There are even no reliable psychiatric questionaries for abult ADD existent at time in my place. So my doc sends me to an diagnostic specialist, a so called clinical psychologist, who will do an experimental questionarie with me. But whatever the outcome will be, I will try Ritalin for one time. Based upon my reaction (if I get calm, better focused,..) and the outcome of the test, he will put me on Ritalin, or not.good luck
Roland

Thanks for the info.
>>>>>>>>No problem.I'll try it. Do you know which is the dose required ?
>>>>>>>>> You will read of varying doses....I would go with about 3 GRAMS/day...you can start out slower and work your way up to the 3 gr/day mark......
Do I have it do order online or I can find it elsewhere ?>>>>>>>> Shouldn't be hard to find at all....stores, health food stores---it's everywhere in the U.S., don't see why it wouldn't be sold easily elsewhere as well...if you go to www.iherb.com you can buy it at a very good price in liquid form (called "Health from the Sun" brand)
How long time does it take to show his effects ?
>>>>>>>>>Well, some DO say it helps their ADD...of course, just like with any medicine, it may not help everyone's problem....ADD is the term which is used for a broad cluster of symptoms, although the PARTICULAR
cause/causes for EACH particular person can vary greatly (what is causing your ADD symptoms may be completely different from what is causing somebody else's ADD symptoms).....MANY possible things which can cause the ADD symptoms....what's great about fish oil is that EVEN IF it does not help your ADD, it is a fantastic supplement that is terrific for everybody's health in so many, many waysThanks in advance and sorry for all these questions (and for my bad english too). Best
wishes>>>>>>>>>>You take care & best wishes to you!!!
