Trazodone

Posted by TapiocaMonk on June 29, 2003, at 8:31:07

I have to say that anyone suffering from insomnia due to Parnate (or
other meds I suppose) should really give trazodone a shot. I have
taken if three times so far and am thrilled with the results.

Started with 50mg:
Didn't work too well for me as I got up in the middle of the night
and it took me some time (though a lot less than usual) to fall back
to sleep.

Next tried 150mg:
Worked very well for me. Took it at about 9-10pm and fell right
asleep. Woke up the next morning at around 7:30 and felt no
hangover as some have reported. It just amazed me to actually get a
full night's sleep! I had totally forgotten what that was like. I
had a lot more energy the following day, though I still do
experience some daytime fatigue from Parnate.

Last night tried 100mg:
Fell asleep right away at around 10:15 and slept through the night
till about 5:30 this morning. Woke up with plenty of energy this
morning and didn't feel tired till a couple of hours after taking
Parnate (BTW, has anyone experiencing daytime fatigue from Parnate
pinned down when this fatigue sets in relating to when they pop
their pills?). I'm not sure if 100mg is enough for me, because I
did wake up earlier than I would have liked this morning. My plan is
to continue experimenting with doses between 100mg and 200mg and see
which works best for me.

Side effects:
Only real side effect that I have noticed thus far is dry mouth when
I wak up in the morning. Also, when I take the Trazodone I get very
tired (in a slightly drugged sort of way) very fast. I guess that's
the point of this stuff, but it is a bit uncomfortable. These are
really no big deal compared to not being able to fall asleep and/or
waking up at 2am every night and not going back to sleep till 7am.

Has anyone noticed any other side effects from Trazodone?
Has anyone else had a similar positive reaction to taking Trazodone?

I have had the exact same positive experiences on Trazodone. I was given it for insomnia as well and I take 150mg. I think the only problem you will find is that after you have taken it for a while, you can't stop taking it without having trouble sleeping. You will have to tapper off of it slowly. I recommend that you use Melatonin to help you get off it when you are ready. I recently did this and had no problems.
