Has anyone ever had an increase in caffeine cravings on any medication? I've noticed recently that I really just want to down more and more coffee. It's weird. It's not because I'm tired.
I'm on Lamictal 150mg and Parnate 40mg.

I am not joking here or trying to be rude, but maybe you want the coffee because your doctor said you should have the coffee and can have the coffee. I know that if my doctor said that I would be guzzling the stuff - but I can't. Since I started the Parnate I can only drink one or two cups a day or else I will have a reaction.

Hmmm.... no, he hasn't said anything about coffee or caffeine. I was worried with starting Parnate that it would be a problem, but hasn't so far. Maybe it's actually parnate that's causing the craving, because it started around the same time. Or maybe it's nothing related to medication or anything else for that matter. Maybe it's just random!

I am going into my 3rd week of Parnate and have noticed an increase in coffee cravings as well. I could never finish a medium Dunkin Donuts coffee and now I drink down to the last drop because it tastes sooooo good.
How long will this dragging fatigue last that comes along with starting Parnate? I almost dont think it is worth it.....there is no way I am waiting six months for it to wear off as someone mentioned in their post. I do take occasional Ritilan to offset the fatigue, but am not real keen on that because when the rit wears off, I feel more depressed. Any insight appreciated.

I've only been on Parnate for a week, and so far I've had no problems with either sleep or fatigue.

I had INSANE caffeine cravings on risperdal. I could drink a twelve pack of diet Coke a day, no problem. I have since switched to klonopin and have noticed that the cravings have diminshed significantly. I'm down to 3-4 diet Cokes a day so it could very well be the medication.
Also, I do know that caffeine craving is associated with ADD. Do you have ADD? It could be that one of your meds is worsening it or even creating it. I never had problems with ADD ( it was extremely mild) until I went on an SSRI and risperdal. I had to add adderall. So maybe ADD is a factor in your caffeine craving too. Just a thought. Wishing you the best, babs

Hmmm, that's interesting about the ADD situation. I've never been diagnosed with it or anything. I've never had these cravings either - in fact, for several years I hardly consumed caffeine at all. But I suppose it's a possibility. Something to think about...

Could just be the daytime fatigue on Parnate causing you to crave the stimulation of caffeine. Speaking of daytime fatigue and Parnate, for those of you who have suffered from it, have you considered supplementing Parnate w/Ritalin or Concerta to give you more energy?

Oh I am sorry - I must have confused you with someone else. Maybe it was someone of the YAHOO MAOI group who has been having fatigue and the doctor told him to drink coffee.
Sorry about the confusion!
