Question about Klonopin

Posted by Jets on June 18, 2003, at 18:56:06

Hello,
This is my first post. I've read through the posts on Klonopin and it seems that this is the drug of choice for SP. I went to the pdoc the other day and he started me on .25 mg two times a day. He did not talk about gradually increasing the dose or anything. He just wrote me a two month prescription. He told me that if the Klon doesn't work, I can take Xanax. I'm already on 75 mg of Zoloft for depression. The doc told me that if this combo makes me drowsy, he will try me on Effexor. Over the last several days, I have not noticed any effect from the .25 mg dose. I am 280 pounds and fairly muscular. Should I be feeling any effect from this small of a dose? My SP symptoms include EXCESSIVE blushing when I'm nervous. In fact, I have never seen a person get as red as I do. When I'm nervous, I find that I can not articulate the thoughts in my head and I come across like a big idiot. My heart races and my hands shake. What should my dosage be upped to? Should I go with a Beta Blocker intstead? Thanks!!!

Yes. go with the beta blocker...Inderal LA stopped me from blushing (And I have red/blond hair and VERY fair skin). I find that light self tanning products help too.

My pdoc considers 1 mg K/day a very low dose for someone with a serious anxiety disorder, and has offered to increase it several times. But this works for me, so I've stayed at this amount. I'm a 5'11" male who weighs about 175 lbs. Epileptics take up to 20 mg/day and apparently tolerate it. So, my guess is that your dose is too low -- "standard" doses for anxiety seem to be in the 1-2 mg/day range.

Xanax also works very well for me, and mixes well with K. Maybe you could ask your doctor if you could try a higher dose of K (and perhaps augment with Xanax)?

BTW -- these benzos can cause sleepiness, clumsiness etc. for the first week or so, but in my experience, this disappears pretty fast, while the anti-anxiety effects remain. And of course, if you go off them, you have to do so gradually.

Good luck!

P.S. Don't be afraid to phone your pdoc to discuss dosage adjustments. Remember that he/she is working for you, so be polite, but don't be intimidated.

Thanks for the info. I will tell the pdoc to increase the dosage. About the b-blocker Inderall. Can I take this on a daily basis. I find that my current job puts me in highly stressfull situation on a regular basis.
