Lexapro and caffeine

Posted by Office_LB on June 16, 2003, at 21:49:06

I have always been sensitive to caffeine but now that I am on LExapro WOW!

I was on 10 mg/day for 2 weeks and just upped it to 20/day. But I noticed this before.

When I drink a small cup of coffee it's like BAM! It's like taking cocaine or ecstasy or something, I can cope but at times I'm like wow I can't believe I am at work and am tripping so hard! In some ways it's great but if the conditions aren't perfect it can get kind of too intense. (like trigger sever anxiety)

Anyways just thought I'd share, and wondering if any of you have similar experiences.

Can't say that I have noticed this, I drink LOTS of coffee. Been on 10mg lex for almost 5 mos. It is possible that you are "adjusting" to the Lex, 2 weeks is not a very long time, as it may take 6-8 weeks before you actually experience "benefits".

I have had days where I feel like I'm on speed, very active and wanting to get lots of things done, a positive SE of Lex in my opinion, but I have NOT been uncomfortable. If it continues to be a problem you should discuss w/doc, or worst case - cut down on coffee!

Best of luck to you!~~~8|8

I've noticed this effect if I *stop* taking my medication for a day or two and then drink strong coffee. I'm on 40mg Celexa, and have taken to skipping my weekend dosages. By Sunday night, a cup of coffee feels very different than it did before. Ditto cigarettes.

I noticed that EffexorXR or Celexa both were intensified with Coffee or vice versa. I had no idea. All I know is that now that I'm on a very LOW dose of Celexa, still drinking the same amount of coffee in am (about two cups) and NO caffeinated, zingy feeling anymore!
