ACE inhibitors for HBP and Depression

Posted by Optimistic on June 8, 2003, at 7:06:44

I have suffered with depression for many years but have been doing much better over the last year or so. Last week I was placed on Prinivil for high blood pressure. It is an ACE inhibitor type of medication. As the week progressed i became fatigued, irritable and depressed.Could this be coincidental as the weather has been gloomy and rainy for weeks also? I was wondering if it could be the meds. Anyone have any ideas???

Hi Optimistic -

It feels so strange to write those two words....but back to the point.

Here's a link to the medline page on Prinivil:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a692051.html

This one covers ACE inhibitors:

I know some of the beta blockers can cause depression, but I'm not familiar with ACE inhibitors. Continuous dreary weather can be depressing. Just a few weeks ago I heard a story about increased depression on the East coast because of an unusually soggy/yucky spring.

If you have a pdoc that you've been seeing for a while that treats your depression, it might be helpful if they talked to the doctor that is treating for/prescribing high blood pressure meds.

Good luck.
