ONe more thing I meant to post on that I am contributing to beginning Effexor 3 weeks ago is Akathisia upon resting or attempting sleep. It's quite a bit like restelss Leg Syndrome is described, although it is not limited to just my legs. Like last night, I felt it in my right arm thru most of the night. It's a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE feeling. I just feel this incredible urge to move to get even a tiny bit of relief in whatever body part I am feeling it in at that moment. It seems really odd and this is as best as I can describe it, but maybe any of you who have felt it know what I am talking about. It's only just started since upping my dosage of Effexor from 37.5 mg to 75 mg. PLease someone tell me that it is in fact from the medication and that it does in time SUBSIDE!!!! It's driving me bananas and costing me very much needed sleep time!

Yes--it happens. From reading here, I think that for some people it is just an initial SE and it subsides. For others, like me, it persists. My solution--combo therapy: Effexor plus Serzone.

I have seen several posts saying this is a known Effexor side effect.
I had same problem with Remeron - I was essentially getting zero sleep, because within a minute of falling asleep I was woken by the restlessness. Then because Remeron is such an efficient sleep inducer, I'd fall asleep again within another couple of minutes - one minute later, bounce awake again. I cycled like that most of the night.
I lasted 5 days - I was feeling more suicidal by that time than I've ever felt in my depressed life, mostly just from this intolerable sensation, plus disappointment in whatI had hoped would be the "perfect" AD for me. Luckily even though I was enrolled in a government clinical trial, my Dr. let me withdraw early. So I never did find out whether the akithisia went away in time or at higher dose levels (I didn't DARE try taking more).
