Mirapex, Requip, Dostinex, Permax, Symmetrel???

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on May 11, 2003, at 6:55:24

I have a pdoc appointment tomorrow, and at first I was set on trying Mirapex to replace my Lexapro (which worked great, but has caused way too much weight gain). But with all the other dopamine agonists available, I'm very confused. I know Mirapex has the highest affinity for D3 receptors of all these drugs, and that's what is speculated to provide its antidepressant, motivational, and reward influence effects. But does anyone else have experience with the other DA agonists?

Amantadine has been known to prevent weight gain when combined with antidepressants. You might consider retaining Lexapro and adding amantadine.

I don't think Mirapex or any of the other direct dopamine agonists are particularly effective by themselves.

Good luck.
