My experience with Effexor XR

Posted by stlouisdude on April 21, 2003, at 13:44:20

I'm new to the site, but it has been really interested reading everyones symptoms and benefits from the different AD.

I have been on Effexor XR for about 2 1/2 months. I was on 75mg for 1 month and now on 150 mg. I do notice a loss in libido, and also some gas in the mornings (I take them at night). I stumbled on this site when looking for info on weight gain from Effexor. I have been dieting pretty hard and working out everyday and I have lost about 22 pounds in 6 weeks. In the last few days I haven't lost which probably is a weight loss platuae issue more than the AD. I take my pill at night to cut back on nasuea and that seems to help a lot.

Well that's my story. just wanted to check in which my experience on Effexor and see if anyone else has anything new to add. Good luck everyone.

Mark

I've been on Efexor XL (not sure if XL is the same as XR, is XR the American name and XL the UK name?) for nearly over a month like you starting on 75mg, then going on to 150mg but don't feel that its helped i'm not sure if my mood has got worse or the drug is making me feel worse, take my pill in the morning and i'm wondering whether it would make a difference taking it at night. I feel like i'm having a nervous breakdown.
Help

Hey Kev...

I forgot to mention alot of my other symptoms on Effexor XR. XR is the extended release formula here in the states. I actually work for Wyeth so I get their drugs free.. not a big deal, but anyway. I do get a lot of upset stomachs but I have so much more energy now. I workout for 35 minutes every morning and really hard workouts too. I never had the energy to do that before. I also get a little jittery at work, but I am learning to deal with that. Effexor may not be the drug you need, but remember, give it 4-8 weeks and look for changes in how you feel or how much you want to leave the house in my case. I used to never want to leave the house. Good luck.

I've been on it on almost a month now and I rarely leave the house.
I see everyone else around me living there lives and it seems that i'm the only one who's not.
Efexor in the states must be alot different to in the UK as my evergy levels have droped dramatically, but as I said in my last post that may be down to my mood changing as I had a bad experience in college, but I won't bore you with that. Anyway i'm going to see a new psych tommorow so I hope they have some ideas.
As i'm losing the plot!!!
Take care

Kev in the UK

Kevin, I was taking 75mg. Lost too much weight and felt like i was having a nervous breakdown. my pharmacist recommended my cutting my dosage down and it worked. talk to your doc! soon!! good luck...p.s. does your head feel full of rocks or debris? i felt heavily drugged.

I think full of rocks but i'm now not sure if the drug in the US is the same stuff as in the UK as half the symptoms people describe I don't have other than feeling worthless and empty.
In the UK they call it Efexor XL.

Good luck people

Let us know how it goes with the psych. Really I felt bad on effexor too, once I stopped it I stared to feel better slowly.
