Muira Puama (+ other herbs) for sexual dysfunction

Posted by yeltom on April 9, 2003, at 15:31:18

I suffer from a bit of ssri-induced sexual dysfunction. The only herb I have tried that has a clear effect in this area is yohimbe, but it makes me feel anxious and otherwise lousy. There are so many herbs out there marketed for libido and potency, but I don't trust that they would be helpful in antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction. I know there has been some evidence that gingko (which I take) can work, but what about muira puama and all the other stuff out there? Has anyone had any clear luck? (By the way, I am male)

Ginkgo biloba works great for me. I never knew I had erectile dysfcuntion until discovering this herb. It has given me back my sex life that I haven't had in years.

Thanks. How much do you take, and does it affect your libido, sensitivity, and/or orgasms, or just erections?

I had the same experience as you on yohimbine. It worked very well for me (about an hour after taking it) but made me jittery for several hours.
Ginkgo works more subtly, and it may take a month to work. While yohimbine can be taken as needed, Ginkgo is to be taken daily.

I am currently trying Rhodax, but am not ready to comment on it yet.

Thanks, but could you at least tell me what Rhodax is?
