What are the best meds to block cortisol

Posted by Dave1 on April 8, 2003, at 20:19:17

Hi,

I've been seeing alot about cortisol and brain damage. What are the best meds to block cortisol from damaging you hippocampus and what are the best meds for lowering cortisol?

Thanks,

Dave

I have heard vitamin C is very effective,
but this is not prescription.

I haven't tried anything...but I've heard about Seriphos, Phosphatidylserine, 7-Keto DHEA and I think Relora. I would like to hear from someone who is trying something that actually works. I hope others will read this post and reply.

Thanks,

That definetly gives me something to start with. I read someone above was feeling results from DHEA. Also, Pfinstegg told me he was taking the antidepressant tianepetine. I don't have much faith in vitamin supplements and the like so I guess I'm kind of skeptical like you. Tianepetine would be more intriguing because I think that might be used it for Alzheimer's.
Also, I guess if something was working it might be hard to tell because your symptoms wouldn't get any worse because the brain damage would stop, but you wouldn't get better either because the cortisol blockers don't repair damage? I'm just guessing here, a lot of times I have to use logic and not science to analyze these things because I'm a computer scientist and not an M.D.

Hi Dave,

Here is an article that discusses the interaction between DHEA and cortisol. It was posted previously by JLx. I'll re-post it here in hopes that it may begin the process of reducing your skepticism toward the idea that nutritional supplements might play at least a minor role in the treatment of psychiatric disorders.

As I understand it, the brain is continually in the process of renewing and repairing itself. Therefore, once an insult is abated, improvement can result.

I understand that Remeron is very effective at lowering high cortisol levels. It also restores sleep architecture.
