I'm sorry, I don't have D.I.D., but I stayed in a psych hospital for a few days once and my roommate there had it. I think she said that topomax and other mood stabilizers helped for a while. I'm sorry I don't remember more of what she said, but that was kind of a stressful time for me.

I had that diagnosis some years back. I say "had" because I think now it was b.s. Like other people, I only started getting better when I was no longer seeing my therapist. Not that I blame her as she was well intentioned and that was the conventional wisdom at the time, but what therapy and that diagnosis did was perpetuate the problem primarily. In accepting this diagnosis and treatment for it, I thought as my life disintegrated that I was "breaking eggs to make an omelet", but what I was left with after years invested was simply the breakage of dysfunction and debilitating depression.

My thinking now about DID is that our minds have a tremendous need and capability to "make sense" of things. Given certain kinds of information and experience, recalled or only suspected, it will attempt to fill in any blanks and create an explanation that fits the whole.

If past trauma is part of your experience, I recommend the book "Coping with Trauma: A Guide to Self-Understanding"
by Jon G. Allen, Ph.D. I particularly found helpful his explanation of memory and states of consciousness during trauma.

No meds helped me.

Good luck. If you continue down this path, you're going to need it.

I have suffered from derealization, dissasociation, depersonalization for most of my adult life. I can honestly say that fish oil has really made a dramatic improvement with this problem. Other things that helped me were benzodiazepines, if you don't mind being giddy, euphoric and sleepy. Stimulants like ritalin have helped. Also Nardil has helped a lot. I Hope this helps. Larry
