Why take Nardil for social anxiety..?

Posted by utopizen on April 1, 2003, at 18:17:40

I have 100% relief of my social anxiety when on Klonopin. I'm seeing a new doc soon, and hopefully he'll give me it everyday.

But a psychopharmacologist I saw for a consult suggested Klonopin and Nardil or an SSRI (celexa or wellbutrin failed though) or Klonopin, Nardil and an antipsychotic.

The antipsychotic would be to offset potential anxiety that he said I'd probably get from Nardil given my anxiety from Effexor, Buspar, Gabitril (for social anxiety) Celexa and Wellbutrin.

But Abilify gave me akthasia.

My question is, why take more drugs than is necessary? I've given speeches even on Klonopin no sweat.

How long does Nardil take to kick in?

How long does it take to kick in if I were to go on Nardil? I was thinking of taking it with daily Klonopin (which I don't get yet). But I like my stims so much, as Desoxyn is my bestest friend (which doesn't say much coming from a social phobe without friends).

I'm not willing to test the waters with a potentially deadly MAOI interaction with methamphetamine!

There were 4 deaths reported in the 60's that involved dexedrine and an MAOI, although it is unclear if it was caused by something else as well. This has been the sole basis for warnings against stims and MAOIs, although many do appear to "closely" monitor the combination... I guess it's done with slow dose titirations.

Klonopin 1.5 mg = no social anxiety.
When I add adderall to klonopin = that's where things get wonderful = I'm confident, assertive,VERY outgoing etc.

I've been on this combo in the past. 6mg/day Klonopin and 40mg/day Adderall... Can you say SPEEDBALLING? Hell yeah you feel good... But how long can your system handle that? Those two medications always brought me down in the end, but then again... I have an addictive personality.

I do well with 1 mg Klonopin/day + 10 mg Adderall, + Xanax occasionally.

At these levels, I get the antianxiety benefits of the Klonopin (and Xanax if I need it), plus the mild increase in energy and focus from the amphetamine, without any burnout. This combo also has a powerful antidepressant effect for me. I've had no need or desire to increase the doses so far, and experience no side effects.

Klonopin and Adderall seem to go very well together for quite a few people, judging from other posts that have appeared here.

What side effects, if any, have you experienced on Klonopin? Also, does your social anxiety revolve around speeches or does it involve other issues, such as discomfort around small groups of people, etc.?
Thanks

Klonopin and Adderall + Xyrem and cycling?

Right now, the positives outweigh the negatives.
As far as Klonopin I have no side-effects.
When it comes to Adderall I get appetite suppresion, higher heart beat+pressure.
In the future I want to try Klonopin+Adrafinil combo and cycle it for example 1 month would look like that:
1 week Klonopin+Adderall
1 week Xyrem (GHB) only
1 week Klonopin+Adrafinil
1 weel Xyrem (GHB) only
Cycling could prevent developing tolerance to any of the above (at least in my case).
