I need support!!!

Doc said I have an unusual case of social phobia for it, but it did make me psychotic when I took it for social anxiety. Thought I would either die or be psychotic for the rest of my life one night, very scary.

So I guess avoid it if you're the type that gets paranoid from pot.

I have heard of a concept called "GABA overload". If any drug were going to produce such a thing, it would be Gabitril (tiagabine). It is a GABA uptake inhibitor. As such, I would think it capable of oversaturating GABA receptors.

I just looked up Lamictal and It was the same type of Gaba drug and I tolerated lamictal well. so I wonder if it's worth a shot?

I had similar probs that Utopizen had with it but only at higher dosages. At 4 or 8mg single doses (IOW up to 16mg/day), it did seem to reduce depression and anxiety, but I had signficant cognitive side-effects. From what I remember you are supposed to only start with 4mg doses per day and then increase by 4mg increments per week. It would probably be OK if the dose size is only 4mg.

i think I took like 18 mg Gabitril at once after a few days of starting at 2 or 4 mg

I thought it was going to be like Neurontin, which I had taken about 3600 mg at once before and had no troubles.

Surprise! There was a significant problem with facial/forehead numbness from it what I can remember. It was like total anesthesia. Somebody could have punched me and I probably wouldn't have felt anything. The derealization was indeed the spookiest part of it though. It was like having a panic attack in your head *only* without any body symptoms.

I had a textbook example of paranoia and psychosis, and possible anxiety, but in a psychotic way.

I had no orientation to time and place. My memory was 30 seconds, then I would forget what happened 30 seconds ago, throughout the night. I became paranoid I would be noticed as paranoid and locked up in a mental ward, so I told my college roommates not to trust me for the whole night on anything I told them and not let me leave the room until the next morning.

Somehow, my doctor refuses to give me Klonopin. He gave me Gabitril to avoid Klonopin. He claims I might get seizures on withdrawl, but I told him an FDA insert for meprobamate says that's only likely if a person has a history of seizures. The insert also advises a barbitutate be used to avoid seizures during withdrawl, which he laughed at as being too extreme. Yet the FDA is VERY tight on what goes in those inserts, so I think he's got a serious paranoia if he thinks giving someone Phenobarbital for 2 weeks during benzo withdrawl is "extreme."

interesting... is that what is meant by the confusion part of psychosis? hmmm... and which symptoms come first (confusion, obsessive thinking, paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, ??) ...

my doc tells me i could get psychosis from ritalin so i'm wondering if there are any warning signs

like is psychosis a gradual or sudden thing?

yep i had about 7 doctors try to get me off benzos... then one finally found an alternative (gabapentin)... then i went to see one of the best docs in the city and he demanded i take klonopin... thought it was very foolish to take gabapentin.. :)

gabapentin did work for me until i started work, then i found 2400 mg gabapentin less effective than 1 mg clonazepam :(
