Zoloft - SLEEP LOSS POOP-OUT??? Suggestions PLS!

Posted by Jacob on March 11, 2003, at 9:36:48

I've been on Zoloft for 2+ years. THe past few days my sleep has been deteriorating. Last night, it felt like I was lying awake all night.

In the past this has been an early indicator of impending depression. I'm concerned and wonder what to do? Xanax? Ambien? (both of which are "on hand" or an augmentation of some kind?

All suggestions from knowledgeable folks would be appreciated.

What do you feel? does it feel like
you're kept awake with worrying
or fear, etc.

Or are you just stilling there without the
slightest idea why your mind is humming away.

Yes, I would suggest the Xanax to tone down your anxiety a bit, and Ambien for sleep. Also, take a look around and see if there are any major stressers in your life and of course, doing some planning around resolving them.

Best wishes....please post if still no use and/or need support,
Jay

Jacob:

I don't think you need to worry about poop-out yet. There are two routes to go: you could either ramp up the Zoloft dose a bit or augment with the Xanax and/or Ambien and wait and see if the sleep problems persist.

While increasing the Zoloft has its side-effects, one of which is temporary sleeplessness, I have found that during a given year, I may need more or less of the Zoloft and I typically find myself going up and down by 25mgs or so (my regular dose ist 75mgs), depending on what my body tells me.

If you are uncomfortable with the side-effects or find it difficult to change doses, occasional Xanax can help to get you over the no-sleep cycle in the short term.

When I first went on zoloft I had to take trazadone to sleep.

This sleep disturbance does not seem to be from stress or problems "on my mind". I'm just not asleep. I've been taking 150mg Zoloft recently, which is my max. dose - at times, like summertime(!) I do just fine with 50 or 75mg.

I forgot to mention, in my first post, that I have also been prescribed Neurontin, so I took 300mg last night, which did help a bit. I haven't found that taking it regularly has provided any noticable benefit in the past.

I think I have some trazodone left - I used it when I started Celexa, which was before the Zoloft. Maybe I'll try that at night, before resorting to Ambien or Xanax.

Comments? Thank you!

Jacob:

From what you describe, it sounds
like you might be taking too much Zoloft!
