Hi there,
Don't be pissed-although I can relate to you here and I would be too.
Prozac was the first AD I went on and I gained 80, when I went off some of the weight remained BUT I also do not exercise. How long have you been off it now? What was your dosage when you were taking it?
Hope to hear back:-)

Hi Janejj:

When I quit Celexa in August of 2002, I gained about 10 to 15 pounds in about 2 months after I quit the Celexa.

I had lost about 20 pounds on Celexa, but I don't think the Celexa was the only reason I lost the weight. I am an anxious depressive, so that is another reason I lost the weight.

When I went off Celexa, I couldn't get enough chocolate or carbs. I believe it was my body's way of getting more serotonin. You really have to be aware of what you are eating. Have you been eating more? What are you eating? Etc, etc.

I have started back on the Celexa and have lost 5 pounds in one month. For some reason Celexa helps me not want to eat mega amounts of carbs or chocolate. Actually chocolate makes me quezy. I tend to make better food choices on Celexa.

Good luck.

wow that makes me so sad. i have gained about 30 lbs since starting prozac, and i go to the gym 5 times a week but i have this intense craving for sugar that feels parallel to a heroin addiction - ive never done street drugs but from what i see on the movies - wanting sugar for me feels like "needing a fix" - i feel like im going to DIE if i dont have sugar.

i know that i have to curb that craving, but i just dont know what to do - im going to the gym and working out and the prozac is helping my rage issues but im eating a whole dozen of krispy kreme just to be able to go to sleep at night and get rid of the twitches....

ive complainted to my pdoc various times and he told me to "just be strongwilled and say no"

any suggestions?

Hi, I hope this helps:-)
I also get the INTENSE craving for sugar- A LOT.
I don't do heroin either and never have and never will-but I get the idea.
Try not to be sad-although I DO understand you.
I'm not even working out-but I bought a bike and am going to start, so you're one step ahead of me:-)
When I was on Prozac-I ate, ate, ate. Simply because I felt better, some meds do that. Have you tried anything else? Or does Prozac seem to work for you? To "just be strongwilled and say no"- is hard-what is your doc thinking?
No, I just have been where you are at.
As far as suggestions--Have you heard of Topomax?
Let me know k?
Hanging in with ya!

thank you sooo much for responding! no i havent tried topomax - im thinking that my pdoc is afraid to put me on anything other than this combo that im on (prozac/ritalin) because i have a tendancy to have seizures and i havent had any so far on this combo.

i have asked him at least 3 times in the past few months to switch me to something else, but he seems insistant that this is what i need to be on. again, i HAVE made alot of progress in terms of not being depressed all the time, but im still eating wayyyy too many sugarsnacks.

the thing that confuses me is that when i do research on the internet regarding these two meds they both say that weight loss is a side effect - what is wrong with me -that im gaining sooo much weight??? it makes me sad tho because now my clothes dont fit and i dont even recognize my swollen face in the mirror. it doesnt help either that im vain. :(

Your very welcome :-)
I am glad that you HAVE made alot of progress in terms of not being depressed all the time-that is great:-) I don't want to plant a seed in your head regarding Topomax, I almost went on that med more because I have seen great weight loss ocurr as a side effect, but I went back on Lamictal because I didn't gain much weight on it and I know what worked for me in the past.
I hope you can trust your doc at this point and maybe ask him/her about Topomax down the road-just a thought.
I have to say that for some, Prozac isn't a necessarily a "weight loser", I gained 80 (did I tell you that?)
but I know people (the majority it seems) who lost weight while on Prozac. It is really weird. Before I decided to go on Lamictal again I also did some Internet research on comaparing other people's posts on the difference between Topomax and Lamictal-and I needed to take the med that would help my mood-and I read a lot about how Topomax doesn't necessarily do as well with mood stabilization(from others' experiences, but had the great weight-loss side effect)
Another thing, I hear you about the swollen face-mine totally puffed up when I was on Prozac. How many mg r u taking? But, my face is still a little puffy even on the Efexor, but I think it is mostly due to the Seroquel, IMHO, but, of course, I need to lose a few pounds that is not even related to these meds. It's a double-edged sword isn't it?
Hang in there-I'm here for you!
Kristen:-)

im taking 40 mgs right now - but im prescribed 60 mgs. the reason why im only taking 40 mgs tho is because the 60 makes me feel very foggy and hungry and sleepy. it seems that i was doing so much better when i was drinking and self medicating - now i have to worry in addition to everything about loosing weight. which sucks big time.
