Constant Anxiety, meds not working, please help!

Posted by anomie on February 22, 2003, at 18:42:02

Ive been suffering from anxiety for 5 years now everyday. It effects every aspect of my life and im unable to work and barely able to go to school. The anxiety is mainly social, but I also have severe symptoms when im alone, etc. I am not depressed at all or have any other disorders besides anxiety. I saw a pdoc for a few years and he tried every ssri, TCA, and some anti-psychotics on me and none worked. THe only thing that has provided any relief has been Klonopin and Valium, but they both stopped working after about 2 months(well needed to keep increasing dosage, but I didnt want to increase it forever) I just starting seeing a new pdoc and the first time I went to see him I talked to him for 5 seconds and he put me on Effexor(which I had already been on and it didnt work) but he insisted I take it. I did, felt ill the whole time and never got an relief. Next time I went into the office I didnt see him(havent seen him since the first time) and now I just see a nurse of some sort. She just reads medicines off a list for me to try like Lexapro and zoloft and other ssri's and everytime comments on how shes happy my depression scores are so low(then i enforce to her I dont have depression, she doesnt seem to get this) SO she prescribed me Gabatril, which didnt to anything except cause "light burns" in my left eye and severe stomach pain, no relief at all. I had been on nuerontin before and It did nothing for my anxiety. I went again on thurs and she put me on Zonegran, which is making me feel pretty irritable and bad and not giving any relief and its adding to vision problems in my left eye. I am so tired of trying these random epilepsy medications or anti-depressents(ive been on about 40 different pills) I am taking Inderal right now for the sweating and heart pounding but it doesnt help with much else. Im at my wits end and in the past months had become suicidal out of pure frustration of living in constant anxiety. Anyone have any suggestions? Or a way I could be on benzos without them stop working? any reccomendations here on the board or in my email would be very appreciated.....pvahflux@yahoo.com
