Sweating from Antideps?

Posted by nails on February 16, 2003, at 14:52:37

I'm female and find I have terrible sweating episodes and not sure if they're attributable to female hormones ("hot-flashes") or the antidepressants. Any of you GUYS on antideps (I'm on SSRI) notice that you seem to sweat more than usual?? (If so, that would rule out the female-hormone thing for me, which my doc says I'm too young to be experiencing).

Sweating, sometimes a whole lot, is pretty much one of the most common SE'S of SSRI's and many other psych drugs. Hopefully, you are getting meds from a psychiatrist and not a primary care doc. It sounds as if your doc didn't know sweating was a SE of SSRI's. That's not good, especially if he's writing the scripts.
If he's writing your psych meds, I'd let him practice what he does and I'd get to a psychiatrist.

I've read that the easy majority of SSRIs, in particular, are prescribed by general practice physicians. I know that under my helath care plan, I'd have to pretty much be hospitalized for a psychiatric disorder before I'd ever get to see a psychiatrist. Drug companies seem to know this fact, as most of thier marketing is aimed at consumers ("Ask your doctor about Zoloft") and primary physicians.

I usually suggest it anyway after talking to a lady who's OBGYN had her on Prozac and Celexa.

I would make an appt w/ a pdoc and let my primary doc write the scripts. Good pdocs are trained to spot problems and MD's just don't have the time. My yearly physical takes about 10 minutes.

Plus, very few people are lucky enough to need 1 drug.
I do know what you mean though and most times it probably works out.
