Thank you so much for reporting your benefit- I have social anxiety and ADD Inattentive. Adderall's okay, but I still have a huge problem in convincing myself to go to the library and just study. It's awful.

And I'd love to socialize more. I was thinking Abilify might be good for this, and your post really helped me to think I might not be overly optimistic here. My side effect problem is usually vivid nightmares or sleep, but hopefully take it at night will overcome the potential for over-sleeping/tiredness.

I have to introduce speakers in a lecture series in 3 weeks. I'm seeing my doctor, he's probably going to give me a low dose of Abilify. I read a thing from the director of the clinical trials saying that it works as early as 7-10 days, and the patients were more energetic, talkative and cared about their hygiene. Cool.

Im thrilled you are thinking of trying this out. Obviously you need samples, I started out at 15 mgs and had the best day in 6 months after about the 7th day of the initiation period. I went to a movie and dinner alone, (cuz My dad was having a cocktail party ) and felt VERY assertive and at ease. Its a partial Agonist of Dopamine,, according to my brother Utopizen, the NOBEL prize winner that discovered SSRIs and Dopamine,,,, Some swedish Guy is praising Abilify. it is a new Generation Antipsychotic

Just take mega doses of Vitamin E and Vitamin C to prevent movement disorders, Check out this research
Abilify does make you HUNGRY as a horse, which I enjoy,, GOOD Luck asking you doctor. utopizen

I had akithesia (sp) for an hour the first day and then I was fine... As for the social aspects, I had a REALLY hard time coming out of my shell before I took abilify, now I can't get enough of people... I say try it at a low dose and see if it helps. I have a speech coming up on Saturday, and I am actually looking forward to it! MEgg

I think Abilify has a balancing effect, dont you, I mean you just dont get "DARK" torturous thoughts. WHat symptoms has it helped for you?

I am very happy for you. I am terrified of having to talk to anyone, everything is terribly hard and never rewarding. Sounds like abilify can really hit the spot for these symptoms in some. Oh and pretty bad depression and a.d.d.

Isnt it very expensive though? Does insurance cover it? What dose do you recomend for this sort of thing? Thanks in advance, Tom

Same here...I was a size 3 and only 105 lbs during my depression, and I am 5'7. (ie I ate some crackers every three days or so..) Now I am eating 2-3 three times a day, regular meals. After 911 I was a mess, and I couldn't get out of it. My doc put me on a prescription of Rispirdol to stop my depressive thoughts from racing, and thats all I have taken for about a year. My father passed away about 3 months ago, and she felt that instead of upping my dose of Risperdol for precautionary measures, she would try me on a higher dose of something better... in comes the Abilify... I was doing fine on risperdol, just really groggy and not as bubbly, but now I am back to my old self.

John K! Expensive!

It is REALLY REALLY expensive~ My prescription cost over 300 dollars for a month (334.00?) I take 15mg though. I think it's a about 40 bucks cheaper for the smaller doses. Luckily I have insurance and it costs me the price of a couple of cds. Remember, we aren't doc's, you need a physician to prescribe a med, and s/he will figure out the best dosage. They usually start you off low anyway, and fiddle with the dosage. Sounds like you won't need 15mgs, good luck!

It costs an arm and a leg LOL, Its outrageous,, I called my psychiatrist and
"Requested" more sample be left at the front desk , those sample packs are fantastic,, I paid what Megg Paid (I pay 20 percent of the total per year) I would start on 10-15... are you insured Jonh K?

Meg, I hope I'm not getting to personal, but did you lose someone from this horrific event?

I heard a lot of news talk about how people got all these problems like insomnia and depression and how meds like Ambien skyrocketed afterwards.

But why would this happen unless someone personally knew someone? I didn't, but I'm also 19, so I sort of belong to a generation that is sort of post-shell shocked anyway--- events can't shock me or horrify me, because there's something to not being surprised anymore or being able to "feel" for someone through the newspaper or television,.. so maybe your generation approaches things like 9/11 on an almost personal scale, even if it's not personally affecting? I hope I'm not assuming too much, perhaps you did miss a loved one?

No, I didn't lose any one, I'm only 25, so I think we are still concidered the same generation x ...but guess I am one of those "exceptions" that feels for people in news media. I can't watch it anymore, I just get my news from the Yahoo page or friends. Not to mention my dad was an anti-terrorist and counter-terrorist expert for 30 years, and I know way more on the subject than just about any other 25 year old. Megg

I feel kind of guilty for not having emotions on stuff that happens in the news. but i've sort of accepted it.

oh, and um, my doc, he hasn't talked to any sales reps yet, so he didn't know what low-dose to give me, so i told him 10mg was the lowest offered- so i guess he'll call this in and then i can have it ordered for monday. shucks, hoping they'd have it in stock and i'd get the ball rolling for the 7-day mark. aggg...

Hi Craig.

I suffer from depression. When taken without any other drugs, I displayed similar response patterns to three other neuroleptic antipsychotics: risperidone (Risperdal); olanzapine (Zyprexa) and sulpiride (Dogmatil; Sulpirex). This is probably common. Perhaps your transient response to Abilify is indicative of its utility in future drug combinations.

I am considering giving Abilify a shot.

How much Abilify are you taking?
Have you experienced any nausea?
Sedation? Anxiety? Insomnia?

Out of curiosity, how did you respond to any of the following drugs:

Effexor
Wellbutrin
Parnate
Nardil
Amphetamine
Mirapex
Desipramine

Scott,

I would suggest bringing it up to your doctor. I have social anxiety and ADD. I take 7.5mg, but mostly because the pharmacy just had 15mg and my doctor had me split these since it wouldn't been a big difference from waiting a few days for the 10mg and then splitting those.

Abilify is taken once a day.

I experienced extreme sedation and dry mouth last night, and into the next day, but got enough motivation to open my Adderall and now feel great. No effect is so pronounced I feel like crediting Abilify to it just yet, of course it's just the second day.

Do take it at night, obviously, if you want to live through the sedation lol. But this is with any AP (not that I've tried any other). It's likely the sedation will go away for me after a week.

Because you will know if it works 7-10 days after taking it, it's worth it because there's just a little investment into it that way. My insurance, which is pretty good, charged me for it for $25-- which is its rare expensive class. But I don't mind that if it works. My life is worth $25/month. I've spent much more on things that kept me miserable.

I haven't pooped out yet, but I have noticed I am not as keen on getting out as I was the first week. I am a little sad about it, but I am doing fine otherwise, so I am sticking with it. I just wish that the social euphoria would come back, that was a wonderful feeling!

Hi I was just reading some of the posted messages on abilify. My daughter has now been on it for one month. We see her psdoc tomorrow. I still am not seeing the results I had hoped for her. With her being mentally challenged it is difficult to know exactly what she is experiencing.

This is why I am so grateful for this site and for all of you sharing your experiences on Abilify.

She is still very agitated at times. She sometimes yells and is grabbing people at her day hab program. I have been giving the xanax at bedtime as well as the cogentin. Both are to make her less agitated. But still she is.

We see her psdoc tomorrow and really would like for him to try and increase it to 15mg and see if it helps. There is slight improvement but not enough yet.

I ask her if she still hears voices sometimes she answers yes and sometimes she says no she doesn't hear voices any more, so it is difficult because she is not expressing what she is feeling. If I knew what she was feeling it would be easier for me to relate this to her psdoc.

Oh well we shall see what tomorrow brings, thanks again everyone for sharing. Any suggestions again would be helpful.
