Weaning off Effexor NOW!

Posted by MicheleD on January 26, 2003, at 19:48:25

Hi,
I just began the weaning process today. I was taking 300mg. Today I went down to 225mg and I am already feeling the effects. I am so dizzy that I can't see straight. I am also starting to take, as of today, 20mg of celexa.

I was on Prozac, 20mg from 1995 until last year. I had what they call "Prozac Poop-out". So I needed something else. The doc gave me doses of 37.5 up to 300mg. I gained weight and wasn't feeling like I did when I took Prozac so she switched me to celexa. She said Celexa does the exact same thing as Prozac but the effects are quicker.

Anyway, I am so scared of this weaning considering this is my first day and I am already as dizzy as hell. This just sucks! I heard horror stories of weaning here and on other sites. This drug is like a poison!

Thanks for letting me vent.

Michele =)

I have been going through withdrawel for a month. It is NOT fun. However, there is an end to it. It might not feel like it, but there is. Hang in there, you are not alone. Take it easy, get plenty of sleep and treat yourself well. Good luck to you.

Heh, yeah, it's pretty rough. I sorta compare it to having a nasty case of the flu...y'know, when you're horribly sick for a week or two, and then you spend about the next month recuperating, needing more sleep and better food, etc, getting dizzy at odd times and a little twitchy at others. Hang in there, take it slow, trust me you'd rather be conservative in speed than overdo it.
(I don't get why your doc would put you on that in the first place, there's a lot of other things that're more similar to Prozac that she coulda tried before going with something with nasty withdrawals. But I guess I'm not your doc huh? ;) )

Good luck,
sl
