HELP!How do I know if it's TD?

Posted by vagen on January 14, 2003, at 5:22:11

Started Risperdone (.33mg) on Friday night. Last night, my left arm was totally wiggin out.
In fact, it's still really sore now.

Is this the dreaded TD?
I am also on Wellabutrin 150ER.

I'd say that it unlikely to be TD after 5 days of a very small dose of risperdal, but to be safe call your doctor. You may be experiencing some other kind of reaction to the drug combo.

Feel Better,

Hi Vagen,

Could you describe exactly how your left arm was "wiggin out"? Was it very stiff, or moving uncontrollably? It is unlikely that you have TD at this point; however, EPS (extrapyramidal symptoms) are common in the initial phases of treatment. There are treatments available for EPS.

Your dose is less than a tenth the recommended dose for people with psychotic disorders. If you do not have such a disorder, it might be better for you to explore alternate treatment strategies, especially when you are already experiencing uncomfortable side effects. EPS increase as the dose of Risperdal increase; this is one of the problems associated with Risperdal. I think Zyprexa has a better track record with regards to EPS. It however comes with its own side effects.

I hope this helps.

My arm was moving uncontrollably. It hasn't happened again. Thank God.
We are trying this because the anticonvulsants didn't work, none of them and the s/e were absolutly horrific for me.
For some reason I am very sensitive to meds, and taking the smallest dose possible seems to work.
I did speak with the pdoc and she said it was prob some EPS and was treatable with benedryl, and to give it a few more days to see if they go away. The only thing now I am kinda feeling is that my mouth gets really really wet and full of spit. This might be normal, I don't know, cause I was on Wellabutrin and Prozac and had desert mouth.
The one thing is that I am starting to feel so much more balanced. I am willing to have a some muscle tension to stay in the middle.
But, if the arm wiggin starts again, I guess we will have to try something else again.
Thanks for replying.
