paxil, long term

Posted by Ree on November 20, 2002, at 21:42:53

I've been on Paxil 2 years. I was having terrible anxiety attacks, on and off for 6 years. But they got so bad when I was confronted about anything, I'd start stuttering or not be able to utter one word!!!! I quit my high paying stressful job and got better, but the anxiety came back even at home, so I tried a psychologist and it helped, and then I went on Paxil. It has helped soooo much, I'm back working at another great job, and having no probs, on 20mgs. a day....but, I'm gaining weight, always wanting to eat, and I feel sort of apathetic, some days I force myself to get moving....any suggestions? How long should I stay on Paxil?

Hi Ree,

How long to stay on Paxil is somewhat of a personal decision. I've suffered from mental illness my entire life, and as of now I choose to stay on Paxil rather than risk going off of it. Do you go to the gym or are you involved in any kind of exercise program? This can help a lot with the weight gain and can give you more energy. As for the apathy, you could ask your pdoc about adding Mirapex.

Good Luck,
Jon
