Lets have a medication party.

Posted by Denise528 on November 15, 2002, at 12:27:08

Why don't we all get together and pool our medication. That way we could get to test out drugs we've yet to try. My psychiatrist has had me on 50mg of Lamictal now for over 3 months, he's only just decided to push it up to 200mg over a period of two months! He won't prescribe Stimulants, benzos or anything else I might suggest so it would be far easier if I could meet up with you lot and sample some of your meds.

I was just telling my pdoc that we should all get together to exchange meds we've bought, but are no longer on that someone else is on (did that make sense?). My pdoc always gives me samples to try out first, but it seems like EVERY time I go and pay for the prescription, I have to switch to something else. I now have bottles of Paxil, Depakote, Gabitril, Xanax and Lexapro that I do not need! I'm sure some other people could use this stuff. Would be nice if we could have a med exchange party : )

It's already been done.

Why do you think the DEA has an office of drug diversion? So people don't take prescription B12 without their doctor's approval?

If you want to point the blame on someone, read this article and hunt these people down. They're why we have to go to the docs every month for a new script, if we're even lucky enough to get the script.

lol- I bet there's enough ignored bottles of buspar lying around people's pill drawers than there are month scripts for the useless stuff. Not many drugs can enter the top 200 drug category entirely due to med switching trends.... imagine, a market entirely reliant upon the drug failing in most instances, but profiting anyway during the trial period of it.

Bah I scoff at your insubstantial drug stockpilage! :) :)

You know i used up my canadian paxil back in '99 .. but from the UK, i have both stockpiles of Seroxat and Deroxat -- and the pretty boxes they come in --- "for a limited time only, collect the whole series ....."

Buspar, Valporate Divalproax, Valporate Epival, clonazepam, valium, lorazepam, lamotrigine and zispin/remeron/mirtazapine (in a pretty box) which i never got to try, because of redtape, lots of Effexor, Gabapentin, and soon some parnate .. oh yeah, and a souvenir script for lamotrigine, chlorpromazine (What The?!), and buspirone from the UK

> lol- I bet there's enough ignored bottles of buspar lying around people's pill drawers than there are month scripts for the useless stuff. yeah how did buspar get popular anyways?
i had 4 docs sequentially try to get me off benzos, then when they succeeded, my newest doc told me to give up the gabapentin and go back to clonazepam instead, arrrrg

so gabitril doesn't help your anxiety then?

Oh Neurontin (not gabitril) kills my anxiety, but in a very haphazard way. It's like it dulls/blunts my emotions to the point where I become a zombie, I talk in a monotone, and talk slowly. And I get brain fog, so not good to think clearly with.

I got annoyed by it. Ritalin gave me a terrible headache or something, constipation, dull feeling, maybe dysphoria even, OCD -like thoughts, stomach ache, and for some reason I guess I was so happy with finally being able to focus I ignored the side effects. But I just tried one 20mg the other day and wrote a note on my computer saying "never, never, ever even think of doing this again. please, I mean this." So I take Adderall, or the few remaining Desoxyn I have left and my doc won't give me anymore of since i require more than the PDR says is average, and so he thinks I'm lying to him about how much I need.

I understand you're just trying to save some money, but please don't ask for medication directly from or offer medication directly to others here:

heh... awe, the joys of living at college. When you need a little cash, you don't have to resort to meeting Billy Bob on the street and not know if he's decided to pay you today or if he's packing. Just walk across the hallway and knock on someone's door.

Sorry, Dr. Bob. I'll slap myself for this post. ::Slap:: There.

Now this has been a good joke ..I think that a party for real should happen that would get the get the artist part fo us going ..We should get a bed sheet and everyone paint something on it and send it to the next person thats interested and send it around the world and get everyone from PB, PPB, PBS, PBF, then we can take it to the best medical center that researches psychological illnesses to show them that we are for real outand that we care fo0r each other. Just maybe then they will dig a little deeper to help folks..

Just an early morning thought. Better than exchanging meds..what do yays think..

I needed a great laugh at a time like this but I live far away in Thailand and can't make it to the party.
So I have a better idea. Do what I did. WRITE DIRECTLY to the drug manufacturer and tell the company what you think of their lousy medication that poops out on you or causes you unremitting suffering when you try to quit taking it.
I wrote directly to Organon, manufacturer of Remeron, and politely asked for an explanation about why the medication might have pooped out on me. Never got a reply, of course. And Organon's website makes no provision for consumer feedback either. (At least I couldn't find any.)
So, if we ALL start writing letters and flood the drug giants with angry mail, it MIGHT wake someone up. Also, you could write to the FDA in the U.S., write letters to newspapers, get on talk shows, exercise your first amendment (free speech) rights. Tell everyone that the drug companies have mixed up important priorities: true and viable health care vs. the Almighty Dollar, and millions of people are literally sick of it. Meanwhile, you can also keep the lawyers busy with class-action lawsuits. Do something truly constructive! Speak your mind or have someone professional do it for you!!

OK, but discussion about parties should be at Psycho-Social-Babble, anyway, could you redirect this there? Thanks,
