Lexapro update (2 week mark)

Posted by Brandymac26 on November 13, 2002, at 19:12:55

Well, I have to say that I am very impressed. So far, my depression has lifted, I have a ton of energy (so much I dont know what do with it all), my anxiety and panic attacks are gone, my gad has gotten way better, and I'm sleeping good again. I feel great, and have no side effects at all. I'm very surprised by this b/c I've been on celexa, paxil, and effexor xr with no luck, they just made my anxiety/depression worse, and had terrible side effects. The lexapro has helped me so much, but I'm almost worried if feeling this good, this soon is normal. It's been 2 weeks and I feel GREAT!!! I have such an increase in energy all I want to do is cook and clean and go go go!! I'm happier, and everyone around me is like WOW!! It's only been 2 weeks and you are totally different. My 2 year old cant even keep up with me I feel so energetic!! I'm in the best mood I've beeen in for a LONG time. Will this last? I hope so. I dont want to be depressed and so anxious w/ panic attacks that I cant leave my house again for 3 months. I'm very happy with the results, but I am wondering if it is normal to feel this good, this fast? Every other drug I've taken for my panic disorder/gad/depression didnt make me feel any better, and if it did work even a little bit, it still took about a month before it kicked in. Gosh, I feel like I've taken speed or something! Could it be that I've been down in the dumps for soo long that I dont remember what it feels like to feel good again, and the medicine really is a wonder drug, or is something wrong with this picture? Any way, I feel GREAT, and any input would be GREATLY appreciated!! I feel like I could ramble on and on and on, but I'll close here! Thanks!

Brandy, that is great news! I have been on Lexapro for 8 weeks now, and just want to warn you, that if you experience what feels like a little "relapse" in week 3 or 4, don't be surprised, just stick with it! My first two weeks were great, then week 3 not so great, week four some good days and bad days, but I kept taking it, and everything evened out by week 5 and has been great ever since. I agree - I think it's a miracle drug!

Brandy,
Wonderful to feel good is'nt it? Iv'e been on Lexapro for almost 8 weeks now and am feeling great as well. Started feeling better 1st week and it just keeps getting better. Never been on antidep. Wish I had been diagnosed 20 years ago. Depression & GAD. Glad to hear runner 2002 is doing well too. I'm sure there will days that are bad but "they" say that's "normal". (Maybe one day I'll know what it's like to be "normal")Have not seen you 2 post on another Dr. Bob thread called "Anyone switched to Lexapro? Lot's of post there, unfortunately not all like as well as we seem to. I would'nt know how to get there from here, I just stumbled across it looking for Lexapro info on the web. Typed in Lexapro on yahoo and it's right there.
Good luck & keep in touch

I recoginized your name because I too, got lost and eneded up here. I am happy to hear someone else likes Lexapro----I am also on WellbutrinSR which is supposed to help w/the sexual side effect. Wellbutrin Sr does cause constipation although I haven't heard anyone say this and what to do and how long it lasts???

Wharf, thanks for your post. You and I must have started within days of each other on Lexapro. I too, have been diagnosed with GAD and depression. I have been in and out of counseling for the past 15 years, and yet, here I am (was) again, feeling like I was at the bottom of the barrel, and yet this time, rather than request counseling, I went to my GP and (sobbing) asked for medication. I think that maybe cognitive therapy could be helpful to me at some point in the future, and I also think that my depression is a result of the severe anxiety I've been dealing with over the past year for a number of reasons. The Lexapro has made me feel like my "normal" self - which is a really fun place to me - again. The Xanax (I take 1/2 .25 mg - next to nothing - several times/week, at this point) is also really helpful when I start to feel the anxiety coming on. It breaks that "cycle" - know what I mean? I'm over all of the side effects from Lexapro, which for me were: dry mouth, sore throat, occasional nausea and headaches, a wired "speedy" feeling, then extreme sleepiness, loss of appetite. The only one still lingering is slight constipation, which is annoying but tolerable.

Please keep posting as to your progress. It's such a new drug and there's not a lot of information out there for all of us. Cheers!

Brandy, I'm taking it for depression and anxiety, and my doctor started me on 10 mg, and after 3 weeks, I increased the dose to 15 mg (10 mg am, 5 mg pm) which seems to be the "magic dose" for me. The 10 mg helped with the depression but not enough with the anxiety. Now the anxiety is MUCH better. I'm with you - it DOES feel too good to be true - life is FUN again - YAHOO!!

Hey Bridgette,
It's my assumption that your a female, duh!
Tell me about this wellbutrin. Has it helped with the sexual se's? My doc said he heard it helped & if I don't get better he's going to put me on it.
I'm a guy but from what I've read on these post the side effect are the same with males and females, namely decreaes libido and inorgasmia.
Please let me know.
