Lexapro Success versus MAOI and Effexor

Posted by SLS on October 8, 2002, at 7:26:10

For anyone who is now responding to Lexapro:

How did you respond to MAOIs?
- Nardil
- Parnate
- Marplan

How about Effexor?

I have been a responder to Parnate and Nardil in the past. I am currently taking Nardil with only partial success, and have had partial success with Effexor as well. I am approaching a decision as to whether to beat Nardil to death with augmenting strategies or changing over to Lexapro.

Thanks for any input.

I did not do well on Parnate and did not try any other MAOI.

Effexor worked well for me for the first few months and then pooped out.

So far, Lexapro has been great, but it's still early. I started on 9/11 and have been doing much better. One thing that is a new experience for me is that my energy level is up, I've been sleeping much better and yet have no problem getting up early. The first week I had some insomnia but that has passed. In the past, I was either was wired all the time or sleeping all the time on different meds.

I have been successful on many meds, including Prozac, Wellbutrin, Xanax, Serzone, Geodon, and Paxil. Lexapro has given me the best results so far (today-week 4 and 4 days)
