Effexor withdrawals and Lexapro

Posted by nmk on September 26, 2002, at 13:21:27

I am down to that horrid last 37.5 mg of Effexor and hope to be off soon. I am going through the worst of the withdrawal effects now (severe insomnia, nausea, anxiety, etc). I have read in earlier posts that Prozac can help ease the withdrawal process but I am wondering if Lexapro have the same effect? My doc just increased my dosage of Lexapro to 20 mg because of the withdrawal effects and am wondering if this will provide the same amount of relief that the prozac would.

nmk,

I am going in the opposite direction, just started Effexor xr 2 weeks ago and I am up to 75mgs. Question- Did you have side effects when you started or while you were on effexor or just when you started to taper off? thanks for the feedback!!!

I had side effects from day 1 of starting the effexor at 37.5 mg. The main side effect was the dizziness and feelings of detachment. My pdoc continued to increase my dose by 37.5 mg each week until I reached 150 mg. Needless to say, the side effects escalated until I could no longer tolerate feeling like a zombie. I also gained 10 pounds on the stuff. I have read numerous posts that it was very effective for some, and I hope you are one of those. So far, I am pleased with the lexapro...I can think clearly and do not have any of the dizziness associated with the effexor. Keep me posted and let me know how things are going.

Nicole
