Neurontin and Wellbutrin help

Posted by noelle on August 22, 2002, at 23:27:23

I finally found a drug that made me feel better, Neurontin, I take 900mg a day, I had been on it for a month successfully, but feeling a bit tired and not focused, ( I also have mild add). The doc had me add Wellbutrin . After the first day I started feeling like I had before the Neurontin, and these weird feelings of fatigue, weakness, dizziness and sort of an akethesia feeling. I stopped taking the Wellbutrin yesterday morning but I still feel this way especially when the Neurontin is wearing off. I took an extra Neurontin and felt a bit better but now 2 hours after I took it I feel weird again. Does this make any sense I hate this feeling.

Neurontin's the safest drug in the world, and i don't care what the skeptics say. It's safe for me, and that's all that matters.

I take 1200mg/day. Take more if you have to, it's fine. Split up dosing, it sounds like you brain is getting overwhelmed all at much. Instead of taking like 1200mg at once, spread it out over 3 times/day. An if you have to, take a 400mg or so an hour after the first, that should be fine..

But my effect on Neurontin doesn't come in until -at least- 2 hours later, if not 3 hrs. So my doc also prescribed very low doses of Klonopin for when I need immediate relief for social anxiety (e.g., beer alternative)

As for concentration, just take ritalin to offset it. I take it no matter what, I'd fail out of my ivy league school without the stuff. I owe my life to Ritalin...

From what I understand, Neurontin is one of, if not the, safest drugs in the world. It can make one feel tired and spacey until you get used to it. It made me feel so much more relaxed that I was able to quit smoking after 25 years of it. I've been meaning to suggest it as an indication, but the manufacturer is already in alot of trouble for touting Neurontin for off-label indications.

Wellbutrin, which I had tried as an antidepressant and as an aid to quit smoking, just made me feel nervous even after a few months.

I should probably add I recently, and literally, introduced myself to a rock star while on Neurontin, no problem.

I'm a "social phobic" that wouldn't have believed myself to do that a year ago.

If I take enough of the stuff, I could probably announce a grammy winner in front of thousands... not that I'd risk it. But it appears to zombify me a bit by removing parts of my personality while on it. Less emphasis appears placed on words, or style of speech, etc... maybe I could work on that by trying just a bit harder. Anyone, it does relax you, yet make you want to talk at the same time- try doing that, Mr. Klono!

but only if you have knowledge of infinite converging geometric series :)

yeah my doc said it took 2 or 3 hours to be effective/reach peak levels... i quoted the literature which says it takes 30 min... i found that he was correct, it does take 2 hours (damn.. and i really liked that girl) ... but apparently if you are taking other meds they interfere with its metabolism (AST AGT whatever) .. then again i thought gabapentin wasn't metabolised? hmmm...

Ok new side effect, things have been better since I stopped Wellbutrin, but now I get this weird akethesia about half way through the day. I take the Neurontin 3 times a day but about two hours before the 2nd dose I start to feel this way.Does anyone now if I need to move up the dose.

I take large doses of neurontin and could
probably consider this. Only one thing.
What's akethesia? I'm a former med tech
and know many of the med words but this one
is new for me.

Can you give a definition/description?

Thanks for the definition. I had never heard this
term before. I can't say I share it.
I have a lot of dryness from neurontin but I've
never experienced this.

i believe Kathisis is greek for 'sit down' .. ?
akathisia is usually caused by antipsychotics....
i found gabapentin relieved akathisia (from parnate?), though i believe that inconsistent dosing leads to periodic akathisia

Well this weekend the side effect got worse, extreme fatigue, anxiety, and yes this inner restlessness(akethesia). However what I think I'm feeling is perhaps depression, from a lack of seretonin. My doc had given me a sample of Effexor, so I started 37.5, the weakness has lifted but I feel like a zombie, and last night I had horrible dreams, I am afraid of all the side effects I read from effexor. I just want to feel normal. I don't understand why the Neurontin stopped working, but I don think its because I tried adderall again with it, which could have set my serontin off. I'm so confused!!!

How much Neurontin?

What type of drug is effexor? I've seen it
listed many times here. Your symptoms sound
like the side effects of something other than
neurontin.

I've been taking it (for seizures, though)
for seven years. I now take 4200mg per day.
The only side effect I've ever had is
dryness and drowsiness at the beginning.

I've read the side effects of neurontin and
the things you are describing sound like they
go with a drug used more for such things as
depression and anxiety.

And I am amazed, dealing now with benzo withdrawal
from some tranxene I lowered too fast, how the
very meds that are supposed to help either are
miracles or nightmares!

Have you run this whole thing past your doc?
