Parnate and anxiety / agitation

Posted by vince on August 8, 2002, at 23:21:28

I've read here that Parnate is a great drug for depression with anxiety - on the other hand I've read here that Parnate causes agitation. What's the difference?

I have very bad anxiety, I can't take benzo's because of the depression - so would Parnate be a good choice? Should I be afraid of the agitation side effect?

Nardil works less on dopamine than Parnate. Dopamine definately plays a big part in anxiety. Consider Nardil.

anxiety was feeling ashamed/embarrassed/caring what people think ... being sensitive about what people say... worried that people would judge how i behave ..... excessive thinking!

agitation is like being annoyed... like that itch that just won't go away -- nowhere near as bad as anxiety, and much easier to treat ...
... a lot of this went away when i started taking divided doses, stopped quickly changing gabapentin doses, and with time ...

nah i wouldn't be afraid of it... it's totally different from anxiety.. and unlike anxiety you can function with it... btw i'm not sure anyone else has actually experienced this side effect .. but i know many have experienced much less anxiety

The ONLY drugs that ever made a difference for my panic disorder and agoraphobia (the monster disorders of anxiety) were Nardil and Parnate. I felt "normal" for the first time in my life. Anticipatory anxiety was greatly decreased, phobic avoidance greatly decreased, no panic. However, I also use CBT and highly recommend it as well.
Re:agitation - I'm not sure what that means either. If it means feeling "bitchy" well, that's my middle name! However, that's not what has destroyed my life nor will it - it's the anxiety and avoidance that has!
