Wellbutrin SR adjunct effectiveness?

Posted by ADD'er in SC on August 1, 2002, at 14:01:48

Hello everyone,

Really have enjoyed the posts, quite informative. I take Adderall XR 30, and used to take Wellbutrin SR 300/day as an adjunct to make an OK Adderall response better...there were not any noticible effects.

Anyone had the reported "robust" experience using Wellbutrin in this method? If so, what was the dose? As I recall, the FDA just approved a 200mg dose tablet for those who want to go to 400 in a more sensible manner.

Thanks

I'm happy to learn that a Wellbutrin 200 mg tablets are coming out. It'll make it more convenient to take two pills rather than four per day. However, if the 200 mg pills are twice as big as the 100 mg, it might be easier to swallow two 100 mg pills than one giant 200 mg pill at a time.

It's funny that you consider Wellbutrin the adjunct to your Adderall. Usually I hear talk of a stimulant (Adderall) used as an adjunct to an antidepressant. Were you originally taking only Adderall for your depression? That seems like a very unusual first choice for an antidepressant compared with the SSRIs or tricyclics or atypical antidepressants. But I guess it's six of one/half-dozen of another...

I have heard of Wellbutrin added to other antidepressants (not stimulants) to successfully improve response. I heard of it being added to SSRIs and Effexor with a resultant improved antidepressant response and minimal improvement in sexual dysfunction.

Hope this helps.

Actually, Adderall was written for ADD-H and the Wellbutrin as an adjunct. From what I understand, it is becoming quite a common mix.

Thanks,

I also take Adderall XR 30 mgs for ADD (inattentive). However, I began to get major episodes of rebound depression (i stopped all anti-depressants three months ago), so my doc added 300 mgs Wellbutrin SR.

I'll be interested to see if the combination helps with the depression and anxiety as well as the ADD.

Anyone else on this combination?

I've been on a combination of 300 mg/day wellbutrin SR and dexedrine spansules (40 mg/day) for depression and ADD for about 6 months now and doing well. However, I just started having some strange side effects that my doctor felt was an allergic reaction to the wellbutrin so he told me to go off of it. We're going to wait it out and see if the dexedrine alone will work for the depression. From the ADD standpoing, I don't notice a difference with or without the wellbutrin but that could be because I take a relatively high dose of the stimulant. I'm hoping that the dexedrine works successfully to keep the depression at bay because I had a horrible experience with prozac in the past and I really would like to wash my hands of the anti-depressants altogether.
