could you make yourself deaf (without jabbing an ice pick into your inner ear or anything painful like that)?

Jabbing an ice pick into your ear is the only FDA approved method for making yourself deaf that I'm aware of. Roche makes a great ice pick. Said to be very effective.

You don't want to do that! You may think at the moment that it will help in some way with the pain you feel but you would regret it for the rest of your life. All your problems would still be there plus you would be deaf! Trust me, I self-injured for years and I still have all my problems plus a lot of disfiguring scars....

I don't know of any way to cause permanent deafness without major injury. What about earplugs? I've found them rather effective.

I am a bit concerned about you though, from this post and some of your other posts on other boards. Is this question for yourself? Do you find yourself overwhelmed by noises? I do myself sometimes, and I know there are conditions that cause some people to be very overwhelmed by noise. And I understand that there are techniques that help with this.

Have you consulted a doctor about whatever problem is prompting this question?

I think you need to find that answer yourself (nm) » hrtlm
