EFFEXOR XR -- INITIAL SIDE EFFECTS?

Posted by cdjonesalt1 on May 31, 2002, at 11:53:32

Hi-- This is my first time posting. I am quite thrilled to have found this site! I started Effexor XR yesterday at 9:30am. Had quite a anxiety/panic attack this morning. Took 37.5mg again this a.m. after the anxiety subsided. I am hoping this side effect passes as my energy level yesterday and today have been fantastic. Paxil stopped working for me and Prozac made my thoughts race. I suffer from anxiety/panic/depression. Thanks for reading this, and, for your feedback :)

Initial side efects for me may be similar because I started on 37.5 immediately after discontinuing Prozac. I was on the sample pack (2nd week 75, third week 150 I think). Since then I have been on 150 mg. It definitely helped with anxiety. Dry mouth and jaw clenching were my worst side effects. Dry mouth still continues but I can deal with it. Jaw clenching is better than it was on prozac. I also got demotivated and "foggy" from about week 3 through week 6-7. Fog has lifted. If it makes you woozy during the day try gradually moving your dosage time to the evening, it worked for me. It made me less mentally active than Prozac, but active enough to concentrate and be myself again. Good luck!

The first time I was on Effexor XR (150mg) I had the insomnia, dry mouth, leg kicking side effects that only lasted for a few weeks and then they all went away. I went off for about two months, relapsed and went back on but this time around the 150 made me hyper, so I went down to 75mg. I had a different set of side effects than the first time- Go figure. But they all went away. It has worked very well for me- I feel as close to "normal" as I'll ever get. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the feedback :) It is good to hear that some of the side effects pass with time. I have been more anxious today (Effxor XR day three) and have had feelings of "impending doom". Ugh! Please keep me posted about your experiences as hearing from you helps me to feel much less alone and afraid.
