detoxify

Can you tell me about an alternative treatment
center where one can detoxify from psychiatric
medication without using other drugs, but which
has expertise in the effects of medication?

My sister is coming off of Xanax, Haldol, and
Atemperator. It's horrible and she has
contemplated suicide (which we attribute to the
stress of withdrawl). This has happened three
times before, where her psychiatrist recommended
ending her medication, and just when it's time to
come of off the final doses she becomes explosive,
violent, with hours of crying. Then we send her
to a hospital, which gives her new medication
starting the cycle again. That's why we need
an alternative treatment center which doesn't
depend on the use of medication but has expertise
in its use. Thank you, I appreciate any
information.

Hi bro,

You seem to have concluded that she doesn't need to be on medication long term -- are you sure this is the case?

Jon

p.s. I liked saying "Hi bro" at the beginning of this message ;)

Bro,

Is your sister quitting all three drugs cold turkey? I don't know about atemperator but Haldol should be tapered and Xanax must be tapered. Xanax is higly addictive and one of the more difficult drugs to quit. For people who do get addicted to Xanax, quitting has been compared to kicking heroin. If she is going cold turkey I think she might want to reconsider and move more slowly.

Here is a clinic that might be helpful for what you are looking for:

Good luck,

Thanks Jon and Paul,
Jon, I'm not sure if she should or shouldn't
be taking the medication, but she really doesn't
want to take them and her doctor told her she
does not have to be on them anymore.

Paul,
I will be looking into that link right away. She
has been tapering off of those meds., but it still
is incredibly difficult on her.

Thank you
