Lamictal--will side effects go away??

Posted by Lia Mason on May 20, 2002, at 22:50:40

Hi,

Any help appreciated...

I'm doing well on 100 Lamictal--been at this dose for one month. But I have a constant headache. My pdoc says it may still go away so we shouldn't stop yet. This seems unlikely to me.

He also intimated that since it's working so well and I've exhausted so many options, I might consider taking tylenol and living with it. It's constant, though. I don't know if I can.

Suggestions?

Lia

I had a really bad headache for the first week with it. Maybe it will just take a little longer for you. I know how hard it is, I am going through the same thing but with a different med. I'm not sure if I would like the idea of having to be on constant Tylenol. That can do damage to your body. I hope the headaches go away soon for you.

Hi Lia,

When I was on Lamictal I had pretty bad headaches that were responsive to advil and allieve. I didn't stay on the drug long enough to tell if they would've gone away, though. I've also had bad headaches on wellbutrin, neurontin, moclobemide, adrafinil, and parnate among others if that's at all similar to you (not that you could draw any conclusions from that). The neurontin headache felt very similar to the lamictal one and I'm up to 3600mg neurontin and the headache has gone away after about 2 months. If it's helping (woohoo!) try to ride the side-effects out, and for god's sake, take some advil or something to make your life a little easier while you are waiting!

Hang in there,
Jon

yeah, I also get crazy headaches on Lamictal (now 250 mgs) and I've learned to live with them (or in other words = complain about them -:) I take Advil and tylenol and others and try and alternate them so I don't destroy my liver too fast.
