Hi,
I have been taking Xanax and it is working well although I would like to find out more about the pharacology of the drug.
It is a fact I believe that it has antidepressant effects in its ability to elevate serotonin levels. My question is how does Xanax elevate serotonin leves. Does it stimulate the release of serotonin? Is there a seroternergic metabolite?
Thanks for any response.Paulb

I did a search and found some information as to how Xanax increases serotonin. For a long-time I believed it had the metabolite mCPP but I have been duly informed by an authority on the subject that that is simply not true. The link below explains that Xanax blocks some re-uptake pumps.

But any other ideas would be welcome.

Hi,
I know nothing about Xanax taken in isolation, but I can assure you it *strongly* potentiates the effects of at least some antidepressant drugs taken together with, which fact is fairly consistent with its (attributed) ability to elevate serotonin levels.
By what means it achieves this (if actually it does), though, I unfortunately have no clue. But would like to know as much as you do.Iago
