regular pony - bliss

Posted by pedr on March 28, 2002, at 9:34:03

On all the A/Ds I've tried, I've got *really* "bunged up" in the old digestion compartment. Sometimes it is a week/week and a half before I go. [bet you really wanted to know that :0) ]

Aaaaanyway, I've tried all sorts of things to improve my regularity - fybogel, movicol, prunes, 2 litres of water a day, all bran, bran flakes, dried apricots, fresh veg&fruit, .... the list goes on. Nothing really helped. Until I tried linseed. It's fantastic, 3/4 tablespoons [it tastes quite nice b.t.w.] on some cereal and that's it. I've gone from being in considerable pain and discomfort all day, every day [and putting myself down for not being able to resolve it] to feeling a bit uncomfortable now and again. I highly recommend it to any fellow bungedUpees.

Now I have one less stressor I can get back to just feeling anxious and depressed :0/ Ah well....

pete.

p.s. yes, I have posted on "regularity" before. And yes, I do have interests other than toilet based activities. Errrr, I like T.V. and... .... stuff.

I got the go ahead from my pdoc today to start SAMe. But in light of your post, I'll have to rethink it.

Well, just as long as you don't get too anal about it. . .

By the way, did you try those Metamucil Wafers? I'm not referring to the powder. Metamucil makes cinammon wafers. There are two in each foil package, and you eat them like cookies with a big glass of water. I eat them before I go to bed. The only thing is, I think you have to be careful about taking high fiber products too close to your meds. I think the fiber might interfere with the absorption of some of the medications, vitamins, etc. I'm glad the Linseeds help you. Flaxseeds are good, too.

Ms. B. Lady,

Don't take everything Colin says too literally. For example, when Colin says, "Sam-e makes me crap like an inverted, spoutin' geyser", what he really means is that SAM-e has improved his waste product elimination efforts.

Hi Bekka,
I didn't manage to find any metamucil wafers, no-one had heard of them. I do take the fibre when I take my meds to I might change that, thanks for the tip.

Also, I gather that linseed is indeed flaxseed on this side of the pond [ I'm assuming you're in the States by your spelling of "fibre" :o) ].

Cheerio,
pete.

A short horse! That's brilliant <laughs>.

It's cockney rhyming slang:
pony ~ pony and trap ~ crap.

pete.

p.s. a pony and trap is an old skool vehicle-type-thing.

Hi. Oops! Sorry, I didn't know you weren't in the U.S. Are you in England? Yes, Metamucil is available in the U.S. I think it's made by a company called Searle, but I'll double check on that.

I didn't know that Linseed = Flaxseed. Thanks for telling me.

I'm glad you're feeling better!

No worries Bekka,
it seems the majority of people on PB are American so it's a reasonable assumption to make!

I also was reminded last night that linseed oil is used to maintain/treat cricket bats! [cricket is the english baseball, roughly!]. What a marvellous little seed it is....

bye,
pete.
