Wellbutrin, weight gain, constipation?

Posted by New one on March 12, 2002, at 23:49:24

It seems that the wellbutrin is behaving like a tri-cyclic for me. I have gained weight and become constipated. This is curious to me since I would think that an activating med would not do this. So far it is hard to tell how effective this med will be for me in the long run, since I have not managed to achieve a sufficient dose without getting the insomnia. And sleep deprivation obscures the benefits. I've been at it for a month now.
Any feedback, fellow adventurers? Thanks!

All I can say is I've been on it 2 years and 9 mos. I've lost around 30 lbs. I take 150mg early in the am and 150mg no later than 3 pm. I don't have insomnia problems unless I miss my 3 pm dose and take it later. I'm also on Serzone, which also helps me sleep. Yes I get constipated.

I don't know your situation, but would suggest looking at the time that you take it, up the dosage slowly (you'll have to go through the side-effects of irritability, excess energy, etc. that occur before it kicks in every time you up the dose). Look at your caffeine intake and reduce or eliminate if you have not yet done so. Eat your vegetables and fiber-rich foods...

Good luck!

Allisonm, If you don't mind answering my question. Have you been on any other AD's? If so, how was your weight on them? The reason I am asking is because someone posted that they felt if you gained weight on one you would probably gain weight on all of them - I am just testing that theory.

Thanks,

Renee
