ZOLOFT WITHDRAWAL

Posted by ROSE on January 17, 2002, at 11:26:37

I'VE JUST LEARNED TODAY THAT I AM HAVING ZOLOFT WITHDRAWALS!!! HAVE BEEN ON ZOLOFT FOR ABOUT 7 YRS NOW. WAS ON 50mg AND FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF HAVE BEEN TAKING 100mg PER DAY. DECIDED TO QUIT SMOKING AND ASKED MY DOCTOR FOR WELLBUTRIN SR, HEARD THAT WAS AN ANTIDEPRESSANT BUT ALSO HELPS WITH SMOKING CESSATION.
WAS TOLD BY MY DOCTOR TO JUST QUIT THE ZOLOFT AND TAKE THE WELLBUTRIN SR. SECOND DAY AFTER NO ZOLOFT I WAS STARTING TO FEEL THESE "ZAPS" IN MY HEAD, EXPLAINING THEM AS STICKING YOUR TONGUE ON A 9 VOLT BATTERY.THEN NAUSEA AND JUST FEELING YUCKY. IT HAS BEEN 6 DAYS WITHOUT THE ZOLOFT AND LAST NIGHT I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!!!
MY HEART FELT LIKE IT WAS RACING,MY HEAD FELT LIKE IT WOULD EXPLODE, FELT NAUSEATED==EVEN ASKED FOR A BOWL UGH!!! DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA THAT IT WAS WITHDRAWAL FROM THE ZOLOFT, CALLED THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND TOLD THE DOCTOR THAT I WAS ON ZOLOFT AND QUIT TO TAKE WELLBUTRIN, HE TOLD ME TO TAKE A ZOLOFT THAT WOULD HELP. IT WORKED!! WITHIN AN HOUR I FELT BETTER. UNFORTUNATELY MY OWN DOCTOR HADN'T KNOWN THIS AND BEEN ABLE TO WARN ME OF IT! SHE DOES NOW!!GOT ON THE WEB THIS MORNING TO CHECK OUT ZOLOFT WITHDRAWAL AND WAS AMAZED AT THE FACT I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM, I THINK WE SHOULD ALL CONTACT PFIZER AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH!!!

Rose, just a kind, gentle reminder first... You're probably new on posting to the internet, but using all capital letters is the cyber equivalent of shouting. I know you meant no harm, but just letting you know it's considered rude to use all capital letters. Plus, it's very hard to read. It's also good to add spaces between some of your text too for ease of reading.

Actually, there are a number of class action lawsuits being filed against some of the drug companies about these discontinuation/withdrawal effects both in the UK & the States. Most of us are so busy dealing with different problems relating to depression to bother filing a lawsuit.

If you do a check on the net, you might find a class action suit you can still join.

Thank you for letting me know about the typing rules. I didn't mean to shout, although I did feel like shouting!!! I hope to find something on class action lawsuits involving zoloft, thanks for the tip! :)

Taper off from 100mg to 50mg to 25 mg at a rate you are comfortable with. Zoloft isn't so bad to withdraw from compared to others. Not to minimize your pain, but everything comes at a price...

Good Luck

I am a 50 plus female and I started on Wellbutrim about four days ago. The SR purple pill (with the happy face if you turn in upside down)I started on Zoloft about 6 - 7 years ago, going from 25, to 50, to 100, to 150, then going down again as needed. I have been on 100, down to 50 down to 25 for about a year, going up and down as needed. Could not just stop as I got withdrawal and I really want to stop as my husband is on Zoloft and it tends to inhibit your libido so you do not care if you have sex or not. The doc said I may always be on Zoloft, except when I brought up the sex issue, he right away menthioned the Welbutrimm. I stopped Zoloft about 3 days before I started the Wellbutrim. Yesterday was the worse and I knew I had to work today so I took a 50 mg Zoloft and felt better. Have to check with doc about this as it looks like people are taking zoloft and wellbutrim from reading this site. I will probably just try to take 25 mg. every other day and then cold turkey the easter weekend with four days off and just stay on the Wellbutrim. Does anyone think I should ask the doctor for Ativan to get me thru the weekend. I have been taking Tylenol pm or benedryl for sleep but it does not always work.
My general mental health is ok and I am at an ok place in my life after a lifetime of depression, neurosis, mania etc. etc. Just want to get to a place physically where I can deal with my mind and body.
Also did anyone hear the report tonight about the seratonin and chance of brain cancer if you take AD for too long?
