Hey,

Does anyone know where you can purchase a light box, or a full spectrum light bulb in Canada ?

Jane, here's two different sites that sell light therapy boxes.
Lumia Therapy Products: http://www.lumiatherapy.com/products.html and Light Therapy Products: http://www.lighttherapyproducts.com/products_lamps.html

The second site has light boxes from a number of different companies. The one I have is a very plain Jane model (no pun or smartass remark intended) called Sadelite at $179. I bought this one as it's much cheaper than many others. Not pretty but gives the same amount of light, 10,000 lux, as the expensive models.

I bought mine on-line three years ago & it's still working good & hasn't needed a replacement bulb yet. Unfortunately, light therapy isn't the answer for me but I do think it makes a big difference if I could use it properly. I find if I sit in front of it for 1/2 hour first thing in the morning, I'll just fall asleep again, bright lights or not. If I don't start moving when I get up, I'll fall asleep. Personally, I wish I had a glass roof instead.

I still use the light box lots for evening. I dislike dim lights - I want everything to be very bright except when I'm doing nothing. But I've used it for many, many hours without it burning out yet after three years.

Hi Jane,

If you are interested in buying mine, I'd be more
than happy to sell it to you. It did help with mood moderately. I don't use it anymore, because
I moved into a bright sunny apartment and am very compliant with my antidepressants now and that seems to keep the black cloud at bay. Please reply if you are interested and I will give you my
e-mail address and we can work something out from there. It is excellent condition and I have the original box and all the info for it. If you are not interested, just get on a search engine and write in sun light box or mood lighting and you
should be able to get some good information.
Good luck.

The places I'm going to recommend are not in Canada. I think they are in the United States, but if you type their names into your computer's search bar, I'm pretty sure you will find their web sites. I bought mine from Apollo Light Systems. They are in Utah, I believe. I have also heard that The Sunbox Company makes good light boxes. Both of them advertise in physicians' journals. Those are the two I'm familiar with. As I said, I bought mine from Apollo, and it's pretty good, but I heard they've had some problems with the switches. I don't know whether they've corrected those problems yet. The light box helps me a lot! I even use it in the spring and summer on overcast days. The main problem I have with it now is that I can't sit in front of it long enough. You are NOT supposed to look directly into it, but you are supposed to sit fairly close to it for at least 30 minutes to one hour. I'm usually rushing around so much in the morning that it's hard to sit in front of it that long. I have mine in the kitchen, so I make my breakfast in front of it, and sit in front of it while I eat breakfast and read the paper.

P.S. I forgot to mention that there are some insurance companies that will reimburse you for the light box if your doctor writes a prescription for it. Hmmm. . .Come to think of it, though, you said you are in Canada, and I think you have a different health care system there, don't you? Well, just thought I'd mention that. Oh, also, Apollo sent the box to me via UPS, and they pack it very well. The boxes are kind of expensive ($300+), but they are well worth it! It's not as good as spring and summer, but I have noticed a definite improvement. I also see a big change when I'm out of town and am unable to take my box with me. I get much more sluggish and depressed then.

Hey Angel,

Thanks for the offer ! I'm not sure if I am going to get one right now, but I'll let you know if I decide.

Thanks, Jane

Yep. That's where I got the info to select the light box I bought.
