Can Anyone Help Me?

Posted by A.Leigh on November 26, 2001, at 11:23:27

I have been battling Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia for several years. Before being diagnosed in the beginning one doc prescribed phentermine with Prozac for depression (4years ago). Over the years I've continued to take it,even after moving a lot and changing doctors a lot. In the past several months I've moved and the depression has gotten worse, Nothing helps anymore. I tried increasing the phentermine and even tried Didrex and Ritilan on my own. No help. So I decided that if it doesn't help anymore I don't want to take it. Can I just stop?
I have since gotten help for my pain syndrome but I am too fatigued and depressed to leave my home. I've decided to get off the Didrex that I've been on now for a while. How long will it take to withdraw from these kind of medications?
The CFS and FM cause such fatigue that I already sleep more than 18 hours per day. I cry all the time. I am just tired of taking medicine and more medicine when it isn't working anymore.
I want to go to another doctor, but for one I don't drive anymore and two I feel like they will think I'm a hypochondriac when I am not. I do have a doctor for my CFS/FM but they don't know what to do to help me be a functional person. I would like to know what I might expect and for how long.
Thank you
A.Leigh

Ritalin is a fairly weak stimulant, it puts me to sleep. Try Dexedrine or Adderall. Also, with all these drugs, it takes some time to work. Maybe you had a month's supply, but most who try a stimulant take one or two pills. The hormone DHEA might be useful as well.

I'm very sorry about your predicament. The only thing I can suggest is a book I bought recently called, "5-HTP, Nature's Serotonin Solution". It is supposed to contol appetite, relieve insomnia, improve your mood, calm anxiety, AND reduce the symptoms of PMS, headaches and fibromyalgia.

Just read the book carefully and follow directions for the directed dosages. It sure can't hurt - nobody has ever died from taking
5-HTP - and it might help a great deal.

Good luck to you-
Gracie
