Klonopin withdrawl

Posted by mandajoy11 on November 25, 2001, at 10:52:29

Hello everyone,
I've been on the same dosage of Klonopin for almost 8 years now and I'm pretty sure I'm going through some kind of withdrawl. My dr says she doesn't want to increase my dosage which is 2mg a day, (is that alot? does anyone know?). My symptoms are dizzyness to the point of almost falling down, shakiness, nausia, and just recently vomiting. I used to take my meds 12 hours apart, but now I find I have to take it sooner or I'll get violently ill, (just like I did before i was diagnosed with panic disorder and put on klonopin). Okay, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time~ mandajoy

hello, im also think its withdrawl. I myself is addicted to ghb, and xanax. Without either , if i stop, i turn into a schizofrenic, parioniod, dysphoric, nut case. More so ghb addict. i only take .5mg of xanax to combat negative twitching that ghb causes. But even if i forget a xanax dose at .5mg, i feel withdrawls, more panicy, anxious, some nerve crawling sensationis, esp in feet and hands face.
one could actually use GABA meds such as ghb, klonopin xanax, to wean off eachother, for instance, iv used up to 3mg of xanax to wean off ghb. vitually no anxiety but verysedated. I could ween off xanax using ghb. but ghb is not recommended my anyone, its illegal.
neuroninin is suppose to work good for gaba withdrawl meds. Id say stay on klonipin, it less addive than xanax, esp ghb, for me that is.

i want to swith to klonpin, from xanax, due to more social phobic values. GHB well, for me, i love it. ESP for social occasions. Id talk to my worst enenmy.

2 mg/day of Klonopin is not a lot; probably less than average for panic. Did your symptoms have a sudden onset? Have you changed your dosage of Klonopin lately? Are you using a different brand? Your symptoms also sound like the flu and it's flu season. You don't say anything about panic along with those symptoms. If the Klonopin's been working for you at that dosage for 8 years it would be surprising for it all of a sudden to cause that kind of reaction.

Mandajoy:

I totally agree with this assessment. You are at a relatively low but theraputic dose. Brands DO make a difference - trust me. There is no oversight as to the actually dosage that goes into these drugs that can vary up to 20% either up or dowmn - not to mention their storage in transport or in pharmacy.

If these are the symptoms that you remember from anxiety I would up the dose or change brands to see what happens. Sometimes anxiety fluctuates and what we perceive as withdrawl is simply the symptoms not being under control by a heightened underlying anxiety.

Although clonazepam is by far the LEAST addictive of the benzodiazepines, no one taking 2mg a day should try to quit without tapering. Once you are stable at .25 mg a day, stopping it altogether should not cause you much discomfort unless you just happen to be especially sensitive. But don't go from 2mg/day to zero.

If you are experiencing these symptoms WHILE TAKING 2mg a day, it is more likely that the primary disease is somehow interfering with the action of the clonazepam, either by blocking its absorption (vomiting or diarrhea) or by interfering with its metabolism.

Are you trying to quit? If so, why? Are your symptoms relieved by taking it? If you're trying to quit, are you tapering your dosage? It can take some people weeks or even months to taper off of some drugs. Don't rush it!

And by all means, get your symptoms checked out by your doctor. It may have nothing to do with clonazepam dosage.

Best wishes,

Mark H.
