neurontin??? any info???

Posted by brooketxs on October 23, 2001, at 13:03:56

i am currently taking klonopin for GAD and panic
disorder. i have had my time with anti-depressants
in the past few years and finally decided NO MORE
after a horrible experience with effexor.

on friday, i was prescribed neurontin by a pain management
doctor for chronic headaches, backaches and neck pain
and i immediately recognized the name from my research
on anti-depressants.

i am wondering...are there any negative aspects
to this drug that i should be aware of?(as they just
handed me the script and said there you go!)
and should i expect any help for my "mental problems"?
(that would be an added bonus!)

again, i have had numerous problems with anti-depressants
and i am a little leery!!!

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Howdy. I took 800x4/day Neurontin for BPII disorder. I also suffer with anxiety/panic. It was very mild for me with just a kind of relaxing quality. I noticed no side fx from it. There is a little evidence to suggest it might elevate mood. Neurontin is an anti- convulsant & not a typical AD. It is often rx'd as a mood stabilizer & to help with pain management. My wife takes 400mg in the evening for chronic neck pain & has had no negative reaction to it. Also the literature lists a fairly benign side fx profile. Hope this helps. Take care

thanks for you info. it is so strange that these meds can help such a variety of problems! i just hate that i can't find much information on it other than for it's anti-convulsant use. how long has your wife used it and has it helped her pain?

My wife started Neurontin about 4mos. ago at 300mgs @ bedtime. About 1.5 mos. ago they raised the dose to 400 @ BT. She says it does seem to help her sleep through the night. Neurontin has a very short half life & needs to be taken several times a day to maintain a theraputic blood level. Since she is only taking it @night I don't think she is getting much relief during the day. She is concerned it might cause daytime drowsiness which would be unacceptable in her job. Good luck
