Is it only used for depression? Is it an SSRI? Thanks

I suffer from anxiety, panic nervousness, and depression. I was started on 50mg of serzone 2x daily. When i upped it to 100mg, i felt side effects such as anxiety, skin crawling some neausea, sleeplessness. I believe i had a bad reaction to this med. Maybe i ddint stay on it long enough or upped the dosage quick.
Then i tried remeron. Almost within 1 hour, i fell into a nice sleep and wokeup with almost no anixety. My depression is leveled out, but im not mr outgoing or happy all the time. I added .5mg of xanax 2x daily which wiped out all anxiety. My p doc then added desipramine to counteract sedation and at a low dose works well. I dont feel anxiouis, overmedicated and such. Working out helps alot for mood. I may switch to zoloft and klonopin/ambien for sleep after a few months. i dont like meds which cause initial anxiety neausea insomina! NO!

I found Serzone to be agitating after about 10 or 12 days, dosing up gradually. It was never sedating for me, and gave me bad crying jags. I don't think it is effective for most people from what I read.

Besides addictive benzodiazepines,
nothing beat Serzone on the anxiety department.
But it did make me exceptionally groggy and
unable to react quickly. My reflexes were so
bad I felt unsafe driving my car. But damn
did I sleep good. The 2 months I was on Serzone
is a total blur however. I could tell my pdoc
exactly every med I took and at what dose, but
we he asks me about Serzone, I say "I can't
remember a darn thing". For some people it is
effective. I wouldn't rule it out if you have
tried the standards SSRI's (Paxil,Celexa,Zoloft).
without any luck. Statistically Serzone is
not as good an anti-depressant. But sometimes
it helps as an adjunct.

I believe some people find Provigil is good
for the groggyness (someone correct me if I
am wrong).

I just started it yesterday for anxiety. I hope it works. I cut my Xanax back to .25 as needed (once a day for the past two days). I thought dr. would give me Buspar, which is what I initially asked for. I was on Paxil and hated the side effects. Keeping my fingers crossed, but the posts I've been reading don't seem too positive on this one. It's going to be probably 6 weeks before I know if it's working or not.

I've been on Serzone since March. It's helped with anxiety. I don't worry so much about stuff anymore. It also helps with sleep, but not as well as Remeron did. I have depression and also take Wellbutrin SR. My doctor wasn't sure Serzone would help because he hadn't had much luck with it, but he says I never respond to things in the way he thinks I will. He seems quite pleased and surprised with my response. I have been on 7 or 8 different ADs since January 98. BTW, Serzone is not an SSRI.

Good luck.
